With more meets going to a limited number of accepted entries it brought up the thought, "why do we let post-collegians/unattached runners in collegiate meets?" when they take away opportunities from those in college. Even it its just pushing collegiate athletes out of invitational sections or seeded sections.
I get that there is nothing set up for post-collegiates and its their only real opportunities, however, I'm sure that if it were no longer an opportunity people would set ones up albeit maybe not as many or as nice. And I'm sure the typical Let's Run answer will be from someone saying, "if you ran faster that it wouldn't be a problem" and the slight more constructive, "without post-collegiates these meets wouldn't be as fast so there is some benefit".
However, why is this allowed at NCAA sanctioned events? Is this allowed at other NCAA sanctioned events? Can a wrestler or swimmer or tennis player jump in a collegiate meet? Why do allow collegiate athletes to be short-changed at collegiate meets?
