i'm trying to write out a training philosophy for a high school program for when i coach.
i'm interested in your views on appropriate mileage for cross-country.
in the base period, i have 9 weeks during the summer in which we will build to max mileage for the last one or two weeks of summer. i have mileage figures depending on age and number of seasons the athletes have already done.
basically, the first 2-3 weeks are 3-4 runs per week.
weeks 4-6 are 5 runs per week. and weeks 7,8,9 and the rest of the season are 6-7 runs per week.
0 seasons of experience max at 35m
1=max of 45
2=max of 50-55
3= max of 60-65
give or take.
after time i will have a long hill/tempo or fartlek period for a couple weeks.
a long hill/long interval period.
a long intervalor hill /mid interval period
and a long or mid/short interval period
workouts will be twice each week (give or take because of meets) hence the /.
max mileage will be held through the hill/long period, and then will drop during the next couple periods.
let me know what you think
