Truthfully, I can't help but agree with this statement. I'm American and I don't say this as a knock on America. Think about it, Europe has thousands of years of history to build its culture off of - why WOULDN'T Europe be a more culturally rich society.

I also see people saying Europe knows how to enjoy the finer things in life that "make life worth living." Sure, and Americans do value productivity (guess what, Asia takes this to an even greater extreme), and practice more a work-hard-play-hard attitude towards life, and that's why we have an economy that attracts the best minds from all over the world. Also, remember that small little event known as World War II? Yeah, that work ethic that people here like to bash kinda helped save Europe's asses while countries like France sat on their ass drinking wine all day.

This site is special and unique because it is focused on running, it provides comprehensive news and commentary, expert opinions written by authors who are devout runners themselves and former(?) D1 college coaches, and an unusually addictive message board forum that offers an intellectually stimulating experience. This site by the way has taken years of hard work and dedication to maintain.

Think for a moment. Could you make a website that does all of those things? Could you make a website that top authors quote in their editorials? How about a site that has the same volume of daily website traffic? That doesnt really sell anything, but just provides relevant content for free?

The answer is no.

What "obvious continual racism" do you see? Can you provide even one example?

Europe has matured. Europe doesn't have the current fascination with empires as do citizens of US.

Europeans do not live in nations which spend over a trillion dollars annually on military budget. Black ops of the books and dollars to contractors get the US military budget over a trillion annually. Europe has different currencies and smaller nations, still Europeans do not spend as much per capita on military or secret police as do US Citizens.

Europe, since they are not into empires and enormous militaries spend more per capita on education, all education.

Europe, since they are not into empires and enormous militaries spend more per capita on first class public transportation.

USA is a billionaires paradise. US chumps have their flags and patriotism, but assets mostly trickle upward to the already rich.

Ok, I'm hardly a hawk, vote democrat, think the amount of money we spend on the military is obscene. But they have the luxury of not being into "...enormous militaries..." because they've been conditioned to expect we will come and bail their a**es out of trouble if any dictators ever get a little too frisky again. They get protection whether real or tacit, and get to bash us as part of the bargain.

A bit over seventy years ago, as you seem to know, US with then Soviet Union decided to be in charge of Europe, or at least Europe's security. US has gotten carried away with military spending globally. That's the political force of military industrial complex in US. That spending is not the fault of Europe. US wants more toys/tanks, plane and ships. US is not spending over a trillion annually with the thought of protecting Europe. Weapon manufacturers in US are engaged in the act of rent seeking to get US politicians, both DNC & RNC to go along with military industrial complex. Even so-called very liberal democrats vote yes often on military spending issues.

Highly interesting. You quoted me. In your rebuttal you failed to challenge my quote. I stated Europeans are not into empires currently. Since US is enjoying empire status, US is burdened with empire expenses. Empire costs, exceed empire benefits. Google failed empires. You want an additional debate: which continent has more racists, North America or Europe. Start you own thread for that debate.

For that type of comment, either this person hasn't been to Europe or didn't go past his hotel room. Unlike the US, just about every town (even population 500) has something interesting/fascinating about it. Many have unique mom and pop shops, and many have family owned food stores or cafes/restaurants that are just amazing. Fresh, many home-grown delicious, foods of a wide variety. Boring? You go to 90% of US towns and all you see is a strip of McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Taco Bell, Walgreens, Walmart, etc. You ask the locals where to get good food, and they point you to the "high end" Cracker barrel, Chilis or TGI Friday down the road. Unbelievable.

Yes, we might as well admit it. Mas marketing and consumerism has totally ruined much is American culture. Now how to fix that? I have no idea.

In the suburbs, no one has front yards. Kids only play in their back yards, which are usually small gardens. You never see kids out running around their neighborhood playing. The streets are very narrow and cars whip through without much regard for kids playing. You have to take your kids to the local park to play. In the US, everyone has big front yards and kids just run out the front door and find friends in the neighborhood to play with. Most Euros I know really prefer this to city and suburban life in the EU. But they miss the arts and cafe culture. A guy I know from Norway painted a mural of a cafe on the wall in his garage so he can sit with the garage door open and pretend that he is drinking a beer in a cafe when he comes home from work. But he would not give up seeing his kids play all over the neighborhood for the Euro cafe culture.
