Mike,
Have you followed any of Canova's General or Fundamental phases? What always sticks out in my mind was Nate Jenkins telling Canova that he used a schedule of his for specific training and Canova told that had Nate used Canova's base phase he would have run 2:13 rather than 2:15.
A lot of the focus seems to be on comparing the specific phases of Canova and Daniels, which look somewhat similar. But the phases prior are drastically different. Daniel's has v02max paced work and threshold, but Canova's is a mix of continuous runs that last between 1hr and 2+hrs at 80% to 100% of MP (the longer in duration, the lower in %), and long intervals no faster than 110% of MP or 10k pace. In the phase prior to the last phase in Canova there is still specificity whereas Daniel's prescribes workouts that are at then opposite end of the aerobic spectrum as MP (i.e. v02max pace). In the end the striking difference is that each phase of Canova builds on the prior and lead up to the final specific phase. Whereas Daniels' seems to focus on specific systems in each phase: general aerobic, v02max, lastly MP endurance and LT.
Also to note those slides were created and presented by Canova, they aren't an interpretation. There is a corresponding talk on youtube. Linked here:
