A bit different, but I once heard one of the football players saying they could've been on the cross country team because they had to run 10 times around the football field every day.

There is a difference between hobby joggers and people who actually run or train in some serious manner.
Hobby joggers are those that think breaking 4 hours is fast for a marathon. That sub 20 is fast for a 5k. That they need to have the latest and greatest gear, and they believe it will make them run faster. Hobbyjoggers are the people you see with fuel belts or hydration packs out on a 6 mile "long run" on flat ground.
Need any more examples?
No, you are the perfect example.
Awww, sorry I hurt your feelings little buddy. Now go run along with your fuel belt and make sure you take plenty of pics for your instagram! Gotta let people know how grueling your 8 mile run was at 11 min/mi pace!
Out of all the comments on here, I have no idea why this one made me laugh... what are Yasso 800s?? How are they even remotely different from doing any other 800m workout??
24:36. Not bad for the amount of hills and not having run since November.
How many times do you stop for water in a 5K?
"Who ran with the 5hr pacer and got well over 5 hrs not a problem just curious?"
Bit different, but in a local 5k race, there was obviously a water stop halfway through. So as I gun past them, I hear one of the volunteers say to her colleague: "see, I told you so, those fast runners don't even stop for water!!!"
thread's back allright! Just got one in my media cone:

Ohhh! Another butthurt hobby jogger! How many gels do you eat during a 5k? Hoping to break 25 minutes soon?

So you're saying that me buying my $450 GPS watch that has such amazing features as a Virtual Pacer, VO2Max calculator, recovery time estimator, bluetooth sync and automatic upload to Strava for my 30 miles a week I do was a waste of money?

Are you greg tucker's mom or something? You're not using the registered name. Why are you defending him? Can't widdle greggy defend himself?
And on a serious note - Unless you are contending for a Olympic medal, you are a hobby jogger. Making the Olympic team with no chance of a podium finish is a hobby. Forget about "qualifying" for the Olympic trials. That's a fine goal to have for your hobby. But so is, I don't know, growing an award winning rose, or something.

The name has never been registered. So go hobby jog your fat azz out of here.
If you're running a 6 hr marathon, can you even call yourself a hobbyjogger? Can't imagine that person is spending any time at all in prep.
Hobby jogger and proud. I don’t make money. I do it to stay in shape. Half PR is 1:31. Hoping to crack 1:29 in 12 months after being off for a while. I don’t keep my medals. I have placed in my age group a bunch. That part is a little awkward because I don’t really care. Best thing to come from that is a pair of Swiftwick socks after a 5k. Loaded up on a bunch more after I discovered them.
What’s the shame in being a hobby jogger?
I love running as a hobby. Even though I don’t wear hydration belts and colllect large medals or brag about my PRs on FB, I still fall in that category and I don’t really care.

Aren't the sponsored elites always running with the latest gear, sometimes even before the HJ's can buy it?
And wasn't that Nike sub 2 marathon world record attempt last year just an overblown hobby jog? It wasn't a race and it wasn't training. It was just a circus performance.

Hobbyjoggers don't run in college.
You mean Hobbyjoggers don't run at DIVISION 1 colleges. Plenty of D3, D2 and JUCO slackers out there!

+1 My favorite part about these threads is when some bitter users feel the need to argue that "everyone is a hobbyjogger" or something equally dumb
"Just received my tech shirt in the mail. I did the Half Marathon, but the shirt says MARATHON. Too bad the organizers spent $3.32 to send it to me -- I'll never wear it. It will go in my emergency grab and go bag. Don't the organizers know that if you do a HALF, you won't wear a FULL marathon shirt???"
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
