Should Sifan Hassan be DQd?

I don't expect Steve Cram to get upset.

Not at all, it's their "fight" if they decide to. I'm just giving my input to a discussion, which of course would happen after seeing the race myself.

I think discussion is an healthy thing but of course there will be the "smartasses" claiming it's only racing just to stir things up when they know they're in the wrong. Similar to those guys who drive over the speed limit and say the cops are to blame when they get a ticket.

Would forcing another athlete to go wide 2 lanes in the spawn of 20 meters considered material advantage? I'm no geometry guru but I'd say that the extra time would clearly be superior to the 0.1 second that separated the 2 athletes (so yes).

I, for one, like race tactics. What Hassan did was smart and it happens all the time. Tactics are part of the fun: Centro won gold in Rio b/c he was a smart racer. Was he the fastest guy in the field if it was a rabbited race? Maybe not ...

So what my words weren't completely accurate? Had Kemboi cut someone off he would be rightly DQ'd. It's a bad move nonetheless even if he (or me) did think it was funny. Your IQ however, might be one digit only.

I admit that I'm too lazy to search whatever happened in 2014. However you can't justify one present injustice with a past one.

That's not exactly equivalent to a rigging athlete in second deliberately veering out to block the athlete in third that's about to overtake them.

That's right: Centro's tactic was to defend his position, react to any attempt to pass, thus making them run wide. He didn't really run fast in the first few laps, he just surged to hold on to his position when needed but then slowed it back down. This is similar in spirit to Hassan who was also defending her position forcing Muir wide.

She should absolutely be DQd. She made that move in an offensive way and it threatened Muir physically (hitting/elbowing).

I didn't get to see the entire race yet because the recording cut off just after 5:00 minutes (stupid DVR things).

European countries should not have taken these Africans anyway. Most are drug cheats too.

Agreed. It was a stupid and unnecessary tactic. Even if she didn't cut off Muir, she still had nothing to gain from it.

Name calling: the last resort when you are defeated.

Centro's 2nd lap in Rio was a 70. A 70! He didn't run fast all the way. He surged when needed to protect his position which ended up being a great tactic for that race. The critical points were the home stretch leading to the bell where he held of Soulemain's and Kiprop's attacks.

100%. She hit her, and obstructed a faster runner coming from behind. It wasn't even vaguely subtle if you look at the front shot. This is a a clear DQ for sure, not just 'normal race tactics'.

No, if you watched the from the BBC angle a girl was almost lapped and Hassan didn't want to run into her which she would have done had she continued sprinting in lane 1.
