I am Tim Holman and was his Coach in High School (I don't hide behind usernames). He was born in the USA to parents who were both naturalized refugees from Ethiopia. He started running midway through his freshman year because I asked him to, and I had to convince his parents that running wouldn't get in the way of his academics. He is a brilliant kid and was part of the Math, Science, Technology Magnet at the best HS in Kentucky where he was a stellar student. He was recruited by Louisville, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State and ND but is a low profile, soft spoken kid who doesn't like a lot of attention. He made the ACC Academic All-American Team while majoring in Molecular Biology. He is admired by his teammates and opponents alike and is nothing but humble and hard working. He is the same age as any other college freshman but has only been running for about four years (he did bowl some...).
It is funny how the same story plays out. Guy with brown skin has success, and it has to be because he cheated, was born somewhere else, or got special favors. Maybe it is just because he works a hell of lot harder than you do.
And he does run funny when he is running slowly for the local TV cameras. Looks a lot better when he's dropping a 3:56.9 1600 split...
