This IS sad news. No idea Orville was in declining health.
Greg, thank you for sharing this information. Kudos to Orville for keeping it going all the way.
My spouse, who ran the PV marathon twice in her 40s, passed away a few years ago, a very tough time.
Hi Mark, I recall you getting quite speedy (you lapped me in a 10k). I hope you're doing well.

Mr. Orville was one of the Best posters ever. I never met him, but I will miss him
Wow, sorry to hear this.
lmb summed up my thoughts exactly. I only know of Orville from Letsrun but it was easy to tell he was a good and gentle soul.
Yes, Mark. Orville was a bit imposing then.
I recall you as a Rolling Hills HS graduate who came to some of the runs for a year or two. You and Mark Stevenson (who I stay in contact with quite a bit) were really fast.
I monitor the results of the many meets and I've seen you have been running well into your fifties. Boston area? That's great. I discussed your continued running with Orville and he appreciated it.
I got to meet Orville when we were both members of the T&F News Tour to the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. I actually got to run with him (at least part of the way) in a road race in Honolulu before we headed to Tokyo. We exchanged messages a few times after seeing each other's name in the early days of the internet, but hadn't been in touch the last few years. I just found out about his passing today after seeing a posting on Once Upon a Time in the Vest and then found this thread. It was heartwarming (and not surprising) to see what a positive effect he had on the LR community.
