Are you an idiot? WRs have been set in Chicago.
CURRENT WRs. I knew that would be too much to handle. Stop living in the past. That is why US marathoners are sooooooo slooooow.
Interesting how those soooo slooow US runners consistently beat your 2:03 & 2:04 super fast runners...

Obviously the Japanese have incredible depth and prioritize domestic events. But why has this not translated into International success?
Because the Japanese record is 2:06 and the Kenyans are running 2:03/4.
Japan has a rich history of international marathon success in the past. The kenyans and EtEthiopians have just moved on in the last decade.
I was going to say the same thing.
Although they certainly could be more competitive at the World Champs level, becaus 2:09 guys like Rupp are getting medals at that level.
But with so many sub 2:10's and sub 2:08's, it seems like they should have perenial 2-3 in the top 10 in every major championship + some top 5 finishes in Majors. I am aware of the Japanese marathon heritage. Not criticizing. Just asking why the depth does not show up outside of Japanese events.
Yuta Shitara won 100 million Yen. Kenyans, that's 95 million bob. Americans, that's 936 thousand bucks.

This is hilarious this guy is acting like Americans has won tons of majors recently. Rupp has one win in a slow race that was led by Andrew freaking Bumbalough for an hour and a half. Bumbalough. It was embarrassing to watch. Flanagan had a great win but everyone knows peak Mary was not there and she would have beaten the field by several minutes.
With that kind of prize money, why would the Japanese want to run abroad?
Probably Bryan Morton (bmort). A PR, if I am not mistaken.

You American boys are the guys who claim the school day PRs as the times they can still run 30 years later. Get back to use when multiple American runners run sub 2:05 is a single race outside the USA.

You have to have a past to have a record to beat.
All you had to do was preface your statement by saying you were only considering the last 15 years.
That's ignorance on your part, not ours.

Does that put her #3 US all time then?
Yes.
She is #3 on the all-time list behind Kastor...and Hasay...and Flanagan... and Samuelson.
You are close enough... because at LetsRun.com....3 =5

Shalane is crying again.
They're even stronger at the half distance. Their college and corporate teams train mostly for the half distance, since that's usually the distance of each of the runner's legs (~20-22km) in their relays.
Check out this video. Tachikawa, west of Tokyo has the deepest half marathon in the world.
Winner in 61:36, then watch them flood in.

Then go to 32:43 and watch the first American cross the line. Still a respectable 1:19.

Who is correct?
The eikeden courses are notoriously short.
Comically so.
If they weren't, then Japanese runners would sweep the olympic 10k and marathon....
But they don't even place.
japanese cheat out if their a**es, it's their culture.
The courses are short.
Period.
