It happens.
not that big of a deal
In the past 20+ years I've suffered from bloody urine from time to time. At first it was just like you described, one or two voids red or tinted red urine and then it would clear up.
I did all the workups, to include cystoscopy. Nothing was ever found and it was diagnosed as "runners hematuria" I was also told to make sure not to run on an empty bladder.
Heres the problem. After that I would just ignore any bloody urine that would happen after running. in 2000 I had several instances of bloody urine after some hard workouts and I simply ignored it. After the fourth or fifth day I went in to be seen for it and they said I was just dehydrated and ran some IV fluids in me and it seemed to clear up. The next day it came back again and I went back in, by then the labs came back from the visit before and I was spilling myoglobin into my urine. (Myoglobinuria is the presence of myoglobin in the urine, usually associated with rhabdomyolysis or muscle destruction. Myoglobin is present in muscle cells as a reserve of oxygen.)
This happened another time a few years later.
Fast forward to 2005 and I actually passed a Kidney stone after having some bloody urine. No pain prior, I was taking a piss (I was in Iraq) and out comes a friggin stone!
I was diagnosed with chronic kidney stones. I have almost zero pain, just blood in my urine and then I can "feel" the stone dropping down the ureters to the bladder and eventually I'll pass the stone. I have probably passed 30+ stones in the last 13 years. Some as big as 5mm, with little to no pain.
So here's the next problem, because I have no pain, I didn't know when to go in to get looked at (I mean, it's just another stone right!) and I have actually had 3 complete blocks of the ureters and have had to have emergency procedures to remove the large stones. When you have a block you get really sick! That's my only clue!
Here's my suggestion for you. Get the complete workup your Doctor recommends. Stay on top of your hydration. Like most people are saying it's probably runners hematuria, but blood in the urine is not "normal" .....ever......

Those procedures are DANGEROUS, and can seriously mess up your body.
Blood in urine is a normal event, and NO BIG DEAL.
The world would be a much better place if people would just stay away from medical quacks.

Yeah tell that to patients with bladder cancer - anymore medical advice from idiotic vegan hippies?
This is exactly the type of idiot moron medical quack to stay far away from.
He would tear you limb to limb looking for some imaginary needle in a hayfield, meanwhile padding his bank account and not giving a crap what happens to you. Look at his terrible attitude to go with it, which is TYPICAL.
Thanks for the insight and posting your experience with it.
As an update did 3.5 today stayed hydrated pretty good and ran came back to pee and clear no darkness at all.
I had this a few years ago. Looked like I peed pure blood. I went to the hospital and was poked and prodded from every angle. A day later I had to get into a gynecological stool and have an armlength rod (looked to be the width of a knitting pin) run up my penis and into my bladder. It was probabaly psychological, but that was worse than any bone break or surgury I ever had. I still have shivvers. Yet, they found nothing and it never happened again. It must have been the empty bladder thing.
I had the same thing happen. Peed dark merlot after a run, went to a urologist who took blood samples and put a camera up my urethra. It was medieval "pit of misery" stuff, but it turned out the issue was just run of the mill, exercise-induced hematuria. Happens to me maybe once every 2-3 months. The doc said only worry if it happens when I have NOT been exercising.
Honestly not trolling - I've pissed red after runs a few times and freaked out before realizing I'd eaten beets recently. I imagine you've ruled this out, but it's always worth starting with the obvious explanation.

Funny. I'm eating beets right now while reading your post.
Have not eaten beets holding out hope its just the random runners hematuria.
Thanks again everyone for taking the time to post.

Had a urinalysis and blood test done waiting for those results back but I'm just curious.
Went on a 5 mile run came back and blood was bright red followed by clear urine no pain
3 days later went on a 6 mile run came back and urine was brownish with a slight tint of red and immediately after clear urine and everything normal.
No pain either time and after the post run trip to the bathroom everything normal but never any pain.
Both runs were just normal easy pace and I was not hydrated any less than normal so either it seems runners hematuria or bladder cancer.
Anyone else have similar issues?
Thanks in advance
I think you should go see a doctor ASAP, and stop drinking red Gatorade
Blood test came back normal waiting for urinalysis
Doesnt rule out the big fat C but at least shows my blood count and organs are functioning fine.
One step closer!

I used to get that a couple times/year from intense, hard track workouts with lots of extended speed work. It was rare, and due to muscle damage and leaking myoglobin, which is then filtered by the kidneys and excreted in the urine. I'd not expect that from an easy paced run.
Got the urinalysis back and it had no RBC or bacteria but they found blood (duh) a little concerned though.
No other occurrences even after a 4 miler yesterday (properly hydrated) but more info you find out no pain with bleeding is most likely the big fat C.
So....you're good to go?
No worries anymore?
No unnecessary CT scans or medical procedures?
Just a big bill that someone's got to pay?

No bleeding anymore but that doesn't mean squat from what I gathered about ruling out cancer. It can come and go.

If it recurs, I'd probably go see a Urologist.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

I'm referencing the bleeding not cancer.
Ok I'm confused...
I urinated blood bright red and then dark brown with a reddish tint..No episodes since the original.
My doctor said the dipstick blood test showed positive 1+ so they tested for it with a microscope and it had 0 red blood cells
