I'm going to lose respect for the Women's Marathon if a Triathlete wins it.

I lost respect for snowboarding when I saw the skiers were way better at slopestyle, which is basically skateboard stuff meant for snowboards.
The snowboarders were falling all over the place and missing all their jumps. The skiers had it down and were going backwards most of the time too.
It's not like Ester just hopped on some skis and won the Olympics, she has been with the Czech team since 2011 and racing in Europa and World Cups since 2014/2015. In that time she has placed consistently in the top 10 in Europa Cup, and achieved top 20's in the World Cup including a 7th at Lake Louise in the Downhill, as well as winning events in the South American Cup in the Summer. She has combined this with the parallel events in the Snowboarding circuit, which have direct similarities to alpine racing (knowing the racing line, gaining speed at the top of the turn etc.) which in itself is even more impressive than just concentrating on skiing.
I love that she won on second hand skis. Yeah, they're from Shiffrin, but I bet she didn't pay anywhere near full price. Take note, dude who thinks all the junior nordic skiers use hand picked skis from Boulder Nordic or Zach Caldwell.
I don't think any of the Oly skiiers pay for their skis. The big manufacturers have oodles of tuned up skis on hand and are happy to loan them out in hopes of gaining additional marketing time.

That is an appropriate comparison, however, that won't happen as the triathlete in question to even get close to the level of even qualifying for the Olympics has given up on full time triathlon training.
If a full time triathlete was able to qualify and then win an Olympic Marathon while still training and participating full time in triathlon I certainly would lose respect too.

Most have ski sponsors. But maybe not the Olympians from non-skiing nations that bring up the rear though. Maybe this snowboarder didn't have a ski contract? Or at least a good ski contract with as many skis as she needed. I was kind of referring to the thread about needing to have rich parents to become a winter Olympians, where I said that developing junior cross country skiers don't have to be rich and can get by on used equipment, perhaps bought from teammates or ex-racers.
What a day for Atomic Skis. Using Mikaela Shiffrin SuperG skis . And 22 year old Ester Ledecká is not a struggling athlete pulling in $400,000 last year.
