This is a 15 year old girl we’re talking about here. Writing this article was not okay in the slightest. This guy who wrote this is a major a**hat and dou***. This is pathetic.

Leave her alone and let her learn to loose
She has the body type to keep improving. She reminds me of Simpson and Coburn.
Different article but shows her mind set. Reminds me of the end of Mary Cain crying on the side of the road in a turkey trot. If I was her coach I’d ratchet it down, no national races indoors, just try to win States ( not easy with Chemiel) and run nationals outfoors.
To be eligible for the later season meets (counties, sections, state qualifier), there is a minimum number of meets that an athlete must compete in. The number of meets is around 6 I believe.
It is quite difficult to balance Katelyn’s individual expectations/desires along with the team’s goals while also doing what is best for Katelyn and the rest of the girls on the team.
Katelyn can’t just run an abridged “pro-style” season because she may not be eligible for later season meets like the section meet (major team championship meet) and the state meet. It also sends a poor message to her teammates that she is above them and gets to skip half the season.
Perfection will not happen because it is impossible. Bad races will be run, perfect strategy will not be devised/implemented. It’s about learning from our mistakes and correcting them for the future.
Why are you guys surprise at Wilkinson performance, she trains with Ajee Wilson,Charlene Lipsey,Raevyn Rogers for crying out loud.
Tuohy herself, along with her coach, has been way too vocal about the records she wants to take down. She's going to be talked about in the media no matter what - she and her coach should just Stop Talking so much. They themselves are building up expectations, and then when she doesn't meet them - like at Millrose - she's crying in the bathroom. Just go out and learn how to race, without setting up expectations that Another Record is GOing Down! She's got TWO more years to get highschool records. Why everything has to be this year? Also learning how to be a gracious loser is important - shaking hands at the end of the race. Congratulating the winner. All important. More important now that breaking another record!

She did not say she was going for a record at Millrose. In fact she specifically said she was not. She was simply trying to go under 4:40. Why do people on this thread keep saying that all she does is record hunt. There was only one single time this indoor season where she said she was going for a record (the 5k) and she got it easily.
Maybe the original post meant specific times as well as records? Regardless, you did not pay attention to the other part of what was written, where she can learn to lose with grace and dignity. One of the reasons why I have always enjoyed Claudia Lane is because she hugs as many people as she can at the end of the race. In her Southern Section prelims at Riverside course, she even hugged the last place girl from the race immediately before her (Claudia overtook her in the last 100m). The few races where she has lost: Brooks PR in June, Woodbridge her sophomore year, and most recently Edinburgh, she still had a wide smile on her face.
Last Winter Gabrielle ran 2:06 and 4:25 off of 59 for 400 and 1:38 for 600. That is pretty shocking really.

Marielle Hall trains with Derek Thompson as well. Heck, this past July an 8th grade boy that trains with them ran 1:56.7. That kid is now a freshman. I can't wait to see what he does in outdoor this year.
Thompson can coach.
Yes she did say she was going for a record. Sub 4:40 would break the Millrose Mile HS record, which is 4:41.87. "Knowledge of MIllrose Mile Record" fail!
ok whats the big deal with her crying like chill out. I didn't even want to post this or bring more attention to it, if it was me i'd be pissed ab people analyzing my response after a bad race and reading into being upset ab it. Ok as someone who has cried after a few races and seen many teammates cry after tough races in the bathroom, on the course, in the finishing shoot when someone asks how there race was ect, and before races, in the locker room, after workouts, at the slightest sight of injury, ok i proved my point we kinda cry a lot, it's just something that happens ok??? the only girls on the team I have not seen cry are ones that i either don't know or don't care ab running. honestly after a race you are tired and if your upset it's a lot harder to hold in tears , like everything seems worse because you are so fatigued if that makes sense. and can i just mention it's not like she broke down on the track like so what just because you know she was crying that makes you jump to conclusions I promise you 90% of the girls in that field have cried at some point after a bad race you just didn't know because there wasn't some a**hole observing so he could write a stuipid article
yessssssssssss
I agree , critics of her races are just ignorant. She's a talented kid. Now for my critique: What bothered me most was post race. Katelyn crosses the finish line and walks right off the track? Really? Are her coaches teaching her sportsmanship. Thats a total brat mentality. It would have been nice to see her congratulate the three girls who beat her. They ran exceptionally well. TEACH THE KID how to be a good loser not just a humble winner. Other than that, I wish her much success. She's a pleasure to watch when she's winning!

First of all, the guy was doing his job, reporting on the race.
When you are a high profile athlete you are under the spotlight. I would say this to her and her coach (jockey), don't talk about setting records or winning this or that, just run and let the results speak for themselves. Once you say you are going to do something special, people will come to see it happen or not.
The kid is 15, let her be a kid, certainly a special talent, but don't ruin it for her. Will she still love this sport in three years?
