IL soph Jon Davis ran 3:58 solo on U of I flat 200 track. Converts to 3:55 a couple tenths faster than Knight ran. Yet no coverage and no love from major running outlets.

He needs a less boring, generic name.
From Korn???
Had a rabbit until 3/4
He ran 4:03 in HS and didn’t get the attention he deserved. He looks like he is on pace to win the NCAA meet and yet most track fans have no idea who he is.
I was disappointed myself that Jon did not get at least a write up from the higher ups at LR. His 3:58 mile was the 498th in US history but we get to read about a hired gun. Jon's a beast running and a great guy. He also won the regional for cross country so he has great range. I'm looking forward to what he does in the future.
HE GETS NO LOVE BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO SHAVE.
Looks like he's straight out of West Virginia looking for Moonshine and Ginger...
Fun fact. I watched the race and he did, in fact, shave.
Craig Virgin could never run as fast... goes to show how slow the old guys were.

Win? Um, no. AA, yes.
Jon's run was great. I was really impressed when I heard about it. I also brought it up to Syracuse coach Chris Fox when we were chatting after Justyn Knight's race and he was so impressed that he told me to make sure that it was a legit mark and not a converted sub-4:00 -- the idea that someone could go out and run 3:58 on a flat 200m track at some minor meet in Champaign was hard for him to envision.
The reason we had articles about Boston this week is because we had boots on the ground in Boston. If I had been in Champaign, I definitely would have written about Davis.

Who?
Jon Davis is an absolute monster. The guy went to a high school of maybe about 500 students in central Illinois and crushed a solo 13:59 at Detweiller his senior year. For perspective 2017 Foot Locker winner Dylan Jacobs and 3rd placer Danny Kilrea ran 13:57 and 14:02 respectively at Detweiller this past season. Considering the fact that Davis finally has guys to train with at Illinois its no surprise that he's crushing it. That 200 meter flat track in Champaign is not easy run fast on.

Writing this from inside the Armory building that the track is inside of.
When my friend put his result in our group chat I was legitimately shocked. I know about Davis before and that he was a stud and I could see him going sub 4 outside or on a banked track later in the season. but I legitimately had to look up the results because I didn't believe a college runner let alone a sophomore could run 3:58 on this track it serves its purpose but its by no means great.
I was coaching a top Footlocker guy at the time Jon was a senior. I can say I was way scared of this Illinois runner. Been a fan of his ever since. Just waiting to see him put it all together. Have always heard nothing but good about him. Best luck to him.
Craig was never a miler, his forte was 5k/10k. Durkin was their miler in those days, but to say he is slow, well, I guess you must be faster at the mile than Craig was.

He should look for ginsing instead. It goes for up to $1000/oz

Is boots on the ground really appropriate here? Wouldn't it be more like... Nike's on the ground? Do you guys wear Brooks maybe?
Lol bump, he took 2nd at US champs and no one knew him. Maybe we should start putting him in the medal conversation if this trend keeps going
