Why do HS athletes compete indoors? Wouldn't it be better to spend a bit more time recovering from a hard XC season?

What a freaking noob, her running career is over.
It's funny that some people were being serious on this thread with their comments. 3rd event of the day, just getting the work in. Tuohy should care less about what some trolls have to say.

4:42 was perhaps a bit excessive if winning three events was her primary goal. As a workout, a fast 1600 followed by an uncomfortably anaerobic 600 on short rest seems like a good idea.
It was a 1500
Can we give some props to the girl that crushed her in the 600? The thread should really be "{insert name} beats Tuohy in close race".
That young lady gets to say "I beat Tuohy the last time we raced" for EVER.

How pi**** would you be if you were a girl of her caliber and people give you sh** for losing a random 600 at the county championships in the middle of a triple with literally no rest in between....
I don't think you know what literally means.
Educated people have been using literally this way for hundreds of years. Austen, Twain, Fitzgerald, Dryden, and Pope all used "literally" as a generic intensifier rather than as the opposite of figuratively. You may dislike that usage, but by being pedantic about it you're just showing that you're not very well read.

Incorrect.
TUOHY GOES HOME DEVASTATED!!!
I get a kick out of the banter here... but I actually like the way her coaches are handling her. Her last XC race was early December at NXN, and her January program was 1- time trial 3000, 2- time trial mile, 3 - time trial 5000 and now they are doing some speedwork as a tune up for Millrose Mile and national caliber relays in March. This county meet was really just a solid workout - 1000 at 4:40 mile pace, 1500 at 5 minute mile pace, folllowed by a hard 600 to work on closing speed. The 600 was probably also the most fun for her as it's great to be in a real competetive situation - even if out of your comfort zone - ie. distance guys running a leg of the mile relay! This program let her score some team points at the county meet and get in an intelligent workout - no burnout here!
Of course the irony here is that her 3 January time trials all ended up at/close to high school records even though she was basically on her own. It's remarkable that she and her coach can have her clocking off consistent 70's or 75 's per lap like a metronome. She has a great feel for pace, an economical stride/form, and she is very strong/athletic - it will be fun to watch her run eventually in competitive fields as there is obviously more left in the tank.
March relays - her North Rockland team is pretty deep - they were strong in XC and have a couple girls who can run close to 5 minute miles, the normal standard for excellence in the high school girls mile. They can be national caliber in the 4x8, 4xmile, and distance medley - probably with a shot at the national record in the DMR. So it's perfectly understandable and commendable that she likes to run the relays with her teammates!
I'm looking forward to Millrose and to NBIN. Coaches, Katelyn and teammates keep doing what you're doing it's fun to watch!
What's her 800 PR?
Hi Coach! Good job!!

Was the 600 last or next to last event?
Ok Letsrunners, it's clear to me that a lot of this is sarcastic, but you might want to ask yourself whether that'd be obvious to a 15 year old reading it..
.Anyway this is an awesome triple, I wish I were in as good shape as she is.
Although the 600 was in the middle. 1000, 600, 1500.
Not a lot of rest, but a fair amount. Considering two counties competing and multiple boys/girls heats.
Great athlete, still three races (not max efforts).
This kid is working hard, let's not kid ourselves. Only a soph, long way to go.
Who cares about what this workout was

I'd do the same thing if I were her, find a short enough distance where she'll have some real competition then race that a bunch for fun. End of the season, sure, race your best events and destroy everyone, but middle of the season take on the sprinters, why not?

Seriously?
(1) HS athletes race indoors because it's fun and the sport is about racing.
(2) Her last XC race was 8 weeks ago, how long should she be recovering? I'd say 2 weeks is fine. Then ease into workouts again, then might as well start racing again. See point #1 above.
