Mass Media demonizes John McEnroe for stating that Serena Williams would rank somewhere around 700th in men's side?

I was as liberal as they come, but I no longer trust the mainstream media.

They refuse to report or accept facts that don't align with their narrative. Their aggressive persecution of those demographics deemed "oppressors" is disturbing and hurtful to me. As a straight white male, I feel no one is really standing up for me anymore.

Why bring this up now? It was almost a year ago.

1. Serena didn't help the situation by chiming in.

2. He didn't help himself either. The question was if Serena was the greatest tennis player ever because she had the most grand slam titles. He responded no because she would get beat by a guy. I could beat Deena Kastor at my best, but she is definitely the better marathoner. He could have made a relevant point about level of competition faced.

3. Americans wildly misinterpret statistics. Some people will yap about a hurricane being proof of global warming, another group of people will yap about a blizzard being proof there is no global warming, and they will argue the other side is ignorant because we had hurricanes/blizzards 100 years ago. There is no nuance anywhere anymore. Just hot takes.

Why I am bringing this up now is because I don't any change in behaviour in mass media. I see the situation getting worse. It seems to be a runaway train. The CBS interview is black and white example and the best illustration of the situation.

Is mass boycott of mass media the answer?

However, as you said, the general population likes hearing this fake news (otherwise the mass media would not dish it out like that. They are for profit organization after all).

I don't know what the answer is, but there has to be something.

Maybe some type of obligatory announcement every 15 minutes of news shows, saying that the information provided may be spun by the network and be knowingly factually incorrect as the network is simply trying to improve ratings.

thats why i no longer watch the news or debate about anything with anyone. not because i think i dont have anything valuable to say but because i really dont see how it will benefit me...it could drive me insane if i allowed it to. i dont really know if there is global cooling or global warming (as an example bein it was brought up) and frankly i dont give a shiet because it isnt gonna stop people from destroying this planet someway somehow anyhow.. ill just live my life the way i deem ethical and brings me happiness and let all the eggheads argue and debate over everything, ill admit i spectate sometimes and it brings me some entertainment.

That isn't what happened.

McEnroe praised Williams and said she was the greatest female tennis player of all time. The interviewer asked him why he said female and he said because she would get beat by a man. Nothing wrong with that statement. It is true.

Actually what McEnroe said was an OPINION and I think he is dead wrong. I believe on a good day she could easily rank closer to 620.

Women's tennis lacks credibility by only playing best of 3 sets. The Battle of the Sexes was rigged by Bobby Riggs to clear his debts.

If Paula Radcliffe was still in her prime she would have ranked 797th amongst men's performances last yr (IAAF.org).

McEnroe stated a fact about a female POC, and that isn't allowed. He's supposed to say she'd give top 10 men a tussle. Maybe in a bar fight with her roided out arms but any decent male tennis player would wipe the court with her enormous derriere.

McEnroe was a bit of a fool on the court in his day but he is right on this one. Tennis should be made open category only for a few years and then we would see where Serena Williams would rank in the world and we could then understand how overpaid she has been compared to many other more competent professional tennis palyers. But maybe she would win some gran slams and hence prove her net worth - in fact she should at least be given the chance to prove herself.

PS I like Deena an she comes across as a cool person but if you ran faster than Deena then you are the better marathon runner, as marathon performances are normally measured by time and I am assuming that you ran under similar climactic or course (flat versus hilly) conditions.

Serena Williams isn't the best unqualified tennis player because Women's Tennis is a different sport than Men's tennis. In my mind, it's basically the same argument as Brady vs. Jordan as it depends on what you value most.

I’m so confused. How is one ‘overpaid’ if one wins a tournament? Aren’t the award prizes announced before the tournament and the winner accepts them? I’m confused as to how this would make someone overpaid.
