A really great column. Some of Alan's stuff in recent years has driven me nuts but this one is VERY good.
AROD was suspended for the entire 2014 season in baseball and yet he's now doing ESPN telecasts, dating J-LO and a tonight show regular?
Abrahamson ends the piece with this:
[Regarding Alex Rodriguez] let’s see — disgrace, tarnished legacy and cynicism — check — just like we have with the Russians — leads to fame, fortune and a global superstar girlfriend.
When it comes to the Russians, indeed there’s righteous sanctimoniousness and moral judgment involved — but, like, just different?
Because the Russians are — different?
They’re not — us?
Which leads to this final question, and again to compare and contrast: what does the American veneration of Alex Rodriguez say about ... us?
Right. Hypocrisy. Check.
Fox and now ESPN should be ashamed for hiring the guy. Yes, he's good at tv but imagine how we'd feel if NBC hired Regina Jacobs to do their Olympic telecasts.
