In 100 m/yd or 40yd dash?
I ran a 5.1 40 yd dash (not that impressive) but
(120 ft / 5.1 sec)(mile/5280 ft) (3600sec/hour) = 16mph

In my mid 40’s and ran an indoor 60m, and an outdoor 100m over the recent couple years. 7.81 and 12.15 respectively(FAT).
Also used a speedometer app on my iPhone.
If you look at 10m splits needed to run my times, I am north of 20mph, maybe in the 21mph area. Surprisingly, the speedometer app had me at just over 21mph in some sprint workouts this past summer.
My goal is to keep as close to 12flat in 100m and 20mph as long as I can.

BTW, your 16mph is an average. Your true top speed is most likely near 20 or 20+

Thanks 100m!
The mid 40’s have been rough. 30’s through 42, I felt “normal”, now I am feeling the bear crawl on for a ride. Literally lost an insignificant amount of speed through 40 years of age, now I have dropped 0.75 in the 100m in 6 years, 0.3 in the 60m. Expected, but depressing.
I don't know about how fast I can run, but back in the day I could throw a pigskin clear over those mountains.
According to one of those Speedometer apps, I reached a max of 18 mph verry briefly with a constant of 17. I feel there's improvement as my running technique needs work and I'm quite slim.
Amazing that I used to be able to run well over 20mph but now probably 13mph. Considering that is a 35% reduction, it is more amazing that I have only lost about 10% in my 10k.
Oldsprinter and Cookie, what speedometer app do you use?

The takeoff in the 40 yd dash lowers your time. I'd be interested in the 10-40 yd time measured for a more accurate measure of top speed.
It's on the Play Store and the app is just called 'Speedometer' with a green 90 as an icon.
I ran 10.3 and 4.2. But is was decades ago. 6.2 for 60 yards. Used to first foot timed 60 m at training in 6.2
I can run at about 21.5-22 mph. Most likely near 21.7 mph.
My street sign speedometer record is 22, so I think that means 22.x mph
