I'm Canadian but have traveled to every state except Hawaii and Florida, and spent a lot of time with family who lived in Carlsbad. If I could afford to live in any state in the US, I would absolutely choose California for the weather and scenery alone. All the people hating on CA....really do sound jealous.
Well Said, "California person". I live in CA. I grew up on the East Coast (VA) and went to College there. I lived in a city and went to public city schools where I learned to get along with people of other races and economic status and see that they are people just like me with a different set of circumstances. The south has serious racism problems, but less so in the cities. I went to a southern university and got a world class engineering education and got to run for the school too. I liked living there. I lived in the midwest for a while after college. I was routinely yelled at with insults while running, usually the homosexual type though I am not. I was routinely called "college boy" as if that was an insult by people with limited education. The "Bible Belt" states are full of people who use religion as an excuse to exclude and discriminate. People love any industry even if it pollutes their drinking water because any job is better than no job, even if it will kill them slowly. Going elsewhere for employment does not seem to be an option for most. I would not live in the midwest again. I moved to California at about age 25. Got a good engineering job in 3 weeks. My running work ethic and education allowed me to move up quickly. I can run everyday . Any weekend I can take off to an amazing place (beach, mountains, desert, icons of America like Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Yosemite, Big Sur, etc.). It is astonishing how much wealth there is here. There are certainly crime and poor areas. But people in CA seem to generally recognize the value of all portions of society: the farm worker to the CEO. Maybe this is because all of the economic and racial strata of society are close at hand. CA typically votes for social programs that are to the benefit of most people, not just their own segment. Even so, as stated by others, CA contributes more to the US Treasury than it takes. This is what I love about CA. Some hate us for being "Liberals", but if other states contributed as CA does, the US would be a much healthier place economically, physically, mentally and socially. Also, people should understand the meaning "Liberal" and realize that using it as an insult is a bit like calling me "college boy" for having an education and contributing to society. Liberal from a google search: 1. Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values. -favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms. -(in a political context) favoring maximum individual liberty in political and social reform 2. Concerned mainly with broadening a person's general knowledge and experience

“CA should have a surplus” not definitely
“Will they save it or spend it?”
Spend it
For sure, on welfare from illegals to Elon Musk.
“Here’s $2 Million, go and blow it in Las Vegas or Reno”

The true meaning of this is tyranny as Liberals attack innocent citizens with the IRS (they attacked Patriot Conservative Christians).
Liberals steal other people’s money.
Liberals don’t give monetary donations to charity thus they are greedy. (They trust the, often described by some “criminal”, Clinton Foundation, re: Haiti Theft)
Anyhow, California needs to be broken up into more than 1 State.

Wow - you're a lunatic!
Also - "your solution"?? You definitely did not come up with that split of CA.
Objection!

So, all California residents of LetsRun, who forced you to move there? And why do you willingly live in one of the worst states?
I’m dumbfounded. Help me learn.
hey little guy. i bet you are really pale, have roommates, a troubled dating life, and watch a lot of TV every night.
I think you are confusing CA surplus with the Republican Congress/Senate tax bill which borrows $1.5T to give it mostly to corporations and the wealthy. This is on top of already running ~$1T/yr deficit. There are no restrictions on how corporations may spend this money and many executives have stated that they will mostly use it for stock buy backs and dividends to the already prospering wealthy. So far corporations who have claimed to be giving it to employees are showing about a 10% usage of the tax windfall for their employees.

I agree that the state is not well run and should be divided up.
Black people finally have jobs
Thank you President Trump
CA
Good points: Fantastic weather, abundance of outdoor activities (running, hiking, surfing, boating, etc). You can surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon good portion of the year. Abundant natural beauty in places. Great colleges. Extremely diverse culture (activities, food, etc.) Largest farm producer in US, Silicon Valley, $6 billion budget surplus (but that is if you ignore the tens of billions in unfunded public employee pension and healthcare obligations), large number of professional sports teams, great paying jobs for professionals,
Cons: Highest taxes in nation which go up every year or new taxes are added, traffic, traffic, traffic, highest number of people on welfare in US, only half the state pays income tax, the other half doesn't make enough money to do so SoCal air pollution (LA and IE), spotty public school system (many are great, just as many are horrible), Wildfires becoming a bigger problem every year, drought issues, irresponsible govt that continues to waste billions on projects doomed to fail (high speed rail, water tunnels, increasing public transportation as ridership reaches lowest levels in decades (at least in LA area, much better in Bay Area), extremely high cost of living (apartment rentals, houses, property taxes) anywhere near coast (LA, SF, Bay Area, Orange County, San Diego).
I could add more but a pretty unbiased list of the main good and bad points.
Someone should slap your English teacher, your writing is almost incomprehensible. That "map" was designed by a Silicon Valley-based right wing troll trying to sow division in California. Lesson time is over, you are dismissed.
I would rather live in California than in Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, or Florida

It's a horrible place. I'm happy I don't live in California and don't understand why would anyone move to California. I hope everyone reads this thread and stays out of California.

I’d happily return to my birth place—Northern California—if you agree to go back to the place that appears to give you such a hard-0n BW...Russia. Why are you so pro-Russia and Putin anyway? I’ve spent quite some time in Russia and many of the ex-Soviet states and they really, really suck. Especially compared to California.

Winners don’t leave California. And losers can’t afford to come back.
