Isn't slide #4 on this wrong? "No woman has held the U.S. high school record at 1500, 1600, mile, 3000, 3200, or 2-mile has ever made a U.S. Olympic team, but 5 men have done it".

I see Bill Meylan says this about the Ping sisters in his preseason team rankings:
"The combination of Lauren & Grace Ping is top returning "top two" of all teams …"

He's right. When it comes to any team's top-two duo, I can't think of a better "1-2 punch" nationally.
Tatum David just transferred to IMG Academy. She and Carly McNatt are ranked 11th and 8th respectively. So this 1-2 punch will be better unless the Pings get back to where they used to be. -
Lynn Jennings: Indoor HS 1500 record, Bronze in Barcelona 10,000.

Pings don't seem to be improving.

NC State might not be a good choice for her unless she wants to wait until her last year to make their top 7 -
That would require her to improve in college.

NC state seems to be a perfect fit for grace. They already have pipelined to NY, where overtraining at a young age is common and basically encouraged for success at NXN, which ping has already had. ( and didn’t even qualify this year due to an injury). Grace obviously can handle high college mileage, and I believe she will excel in a college environment, WITHOUT her parents.

The Pings' Project Gold camped at NAU this summer. Don't be surprised when Grace and the rest of the Project Gold / Tinman Jr Elite start rolling into Flagstaff over the next few years.

grace has already peaked this thread is useless

So Lauren Ping opened up her 2020 season with a 17:05. Looks like Grace didn't compete on Saturday--I hope all is well with her.
Take note of the new transfer from out-of-state that just joined the DV girls team: Katie Sigerud. She moved from Minnesota, where she was the #2 member (behind Ali Weimer) on the Saint Michael Albertville (STMA) team that upset both Wayzata and Edina to win the 2018 Minnesota Class AA XC state championship. Sigerud is a Junior, and previously had a 18:10 5K PR. She broke that on Saturday at the Chandler Invitational with a 17:44. On paper, she becomes DV's new #3 runner behind the Pings. -
Maybe on your paper. She is number 2 on my paper.

I see that DV ran in the Western Equinox meet on Saturday. This time, Lauren Ping ran a 17:01.78--a few seconds faster than her 17:05 the week before. According to some of the runner interviews posted on MileSplit, this was a hilly course. For comparison, I see that Abby Vanderkooi ran a nearly identical 17:01.80 at her race this weekend.
Still no Grace at this weekend's meet. Also no Olivia Thatcher, who would normally be one of DV's scorers. It sounds like Desert Twilight is DV's next meet. I'm looking forward to seeing how that goes. Last year, Lauren Ping ran a 16:49 as the runner-up to Jenna Hutchins' 16:38. -
Grace doesn't want to run if she can't break 18.

Looks like she is going to Oklahoma State -
NC state isnt a good choice except for a very small top group of HS runners, they are stacked and there is no room. In fact, NC state has multiple freshmen and sophomores on the roster that should transfer immediately if they ever want to see a big race. Maybe they don't care if they never see a big meet but there is no hope of top 7 and we saw a few in yesterday's lineup that had very good HS careers that honestly will never make the big squad no matter how hard they train.

I completely agree with you. -
Her comment about not being allowed to run out of state in MN is incorrect. It must have been a school thing but her comment makes it sound like a state rule. Edina runs out of state every other week during the season.

Mary Decker?
Decker's time was an indoor race and I am not sure they were keeping woman's high school records back then. It should be pointed out that a lot of those guys were in time periods where woman weren't allowed to run. Since 1975 how many men have set one of those records and then made an olympic team? Webb and Trautman off the top of my head. Lynn Jennings did have the indoor mile record and Cathy Schiro did hold the 5000m record.
