Obviously the quality of race conditions (higher altitude, shorter non-banked track) makes Ms. Coburn's (And Ms. Praught Leer's) races impressive no matter what, but just from a fan perspective be interesting to see if the Colorado record Ms. Coburn set is a very short- lived one.
The record she broke was held by Colorado Buff junior Dani Jones, who ran 4:39.50 in last season's Colorado Open at CU-Boulder's ~2 year old banked 300M track. With this year's addition of that meet coming up next weekend, and Ms. Jones seeming to be continually improving (most recently indicated with her best- to- date 10th place finish (ran while I believe she was a little ill) at the NCAA cross country championships), could she challenge the 4:38 mark Ms. Coburn just set?
(Per

, the women's mile is scheduled to start at 12:55 PM Mountain Time on Feb. 3rd.)
And, of course, as others indicated earlier in this thread, it would be interesting to see what time Jenny Simpson could run if she ever ran a serious race in Colorado, especially on the fast CU track, if she was at near peak shape. (Assume it would be a state record that could probably last awhile?)
