Showing cameltoe is immodest.
Why do people wear shorts over their pants (tights)?

Some of you don't seem to realize the difference between baselayer tights and actual run tights. Wearing shorts over tights that are built to be worn on their own? That's stupid! Most Asics, UA Run, Nike, 2XU, CW-X running tights have modesty liners built into the front to prevent dick outlines on the tight.
As far as underwear goes, that's personal preference. I tried running in thermal 2XU tights with Under Armour underwear undearneath in 0-20 F weather in CO and what I found was the UA underwear, being heatgear, would cool down faster than the tights, causing my junk and thighs to get colder faster compared to just going commando underneath the thermal run tights. I havent found a pair of performance underwear that retains heat well enough underneath tights in cold weather. When it gets really cold, I'll wear baselayer thermals underneath a pair of wind/water resistant tights.
Look, if you don't want to wear tights, that's your choice, but don't slap your 1950's sharia law on the rest of us. -
^ Well said.
I do wish more manufacturers would give guys more running tight choices and maybe some neat designs.
Black gets boring... -

I’m all for neat designs on short shorts or singlets, but I feel like anything other than a solid color on running tights for men would just look way too feminine. Would remind me of yoga pants that girls wear.
Also from a business standpoint, it probably wouldn’t be worth manufacturing printed running tights considering the very tiny fraction of people who would actually be willing to buy them. -

Women's tights are built exactly the same (sometimes they have a higher waist, but that's it) and they come in way more patterns. Stomping someone in a race while wearing neon sunflower tights is a great feeling. Obviously this may not appeal to the prudes in this thread, but runners aren't exactly known for prudence. Besides, nobody is looking at your junk. -

I've been tempted to buy a cheap pair just to try.
Some of my running tights, the waist band can be annoying, meaning too narrow, sometimes they even fold over if I stretch.
I do have a pair of UA cold gear tights that I swear are womens, but are tagged as mens... not sure. But the waist is very comfortable, because it's not like an elastic waistband, and it's a little higher. -

Go for it. They're usually cheaper and more common than men's tights since men's tights are sold as high-end performance gear. I got a bunch of $10 pairs that I wear with athletic briefs. -
I’m a guy that recently started wearing full length running tights. It seems ridiculous wearing shorts over them. Often running past oncoming women I notice their eyes are focused around the crotch area. Always makes me laugh.......it feels like payback :)

Shorts over tights is ghey. We need to ratify an amendment to the US Constitution to ban and officially outlaw this ridiculous practice.

I used to do this for modesty. Then I saw some guy do the same and thought, "damn, that looks really dumb."

I once wore track shorts over my 3/4 and full tights also. This was for modesty purposes as well. After running on a treadmill in front of a mirror and seeing the outline of the privates moving around; I then relized what the gals were smiling at. I started wearing the shorts on all my runs. Those were unlined tights. The ones that I wear now hold everything under control and do not show an outline. I stopped wearing the shorts for cover.

Last year, at work at work, there was an incident that explains a lot. My colleague became interested in running and posted a photo from the next race on social networks. In the picture, he was in full sports equipment, including tight T-shirts (without shorts). This post was seen by a girl working in our department and harshly ridiculed the guy.The opinion of colleagues on this issue is divided. Some of them came to his defense, claiming that this is a sports uniform, it is more convenient to run in them. I believe that people should do as they feel comfortable and I like to wear leggings without shorts. I recently ordered a very high-quality leggings https://www.preggoleggings.com/collections/postpartum-leggings and I was very happy! We hope that you will be able to feel comfortable not paying attention to people.

Do people actually go commando in their tights? If so that may be part of the problem. I wear running tights in the winter, and always wear boxer briefs under them. Same with my 3/4 tights that not a thermal winter tight, which I will wear in the spring in fall. These tights are not underwear but do not have liners, so I wear just wear briefs. With the briefs plus the tight, its just a bulge, its not like you can see everything. Is a bulge really that offensive? What about guys who wear tight jeans and you can see a bulge? Thats acceptable but tights are not? I seriously dont understand this phenomenon of wearing shorts over tights that are not meant to be a under garment. I can understand with compression tights that are meant to be worn under shorts. Otherwise it seems ridiculously self conscious. I think I would feel way more stupid doing that than just letting my bulge show.
Its weird. Don't a lot of runners wear half tights in the summer? I never really see people wearing liner shorts over half tights. LOL now that would be really silly. -

I really don't care what or how folks dress, but today I was out running and saw some random guy running. I caught up to him and we got chatting. It sparked a rather interesting conversation.
He noticed I was wearing my 3/4 length UA running tights (not underwear/baselayer), and he commented that I'm fearless. In the back of my mind, I was like, huh? (Mind you, I'm 5'4" and weigh 120 lbs athletic build... not some fat geezer...) I only wear running tights with no shorts over them... in fact, I tried it once, and it was very weird feeling -- I hated it!!! My temporary running partner was surprised that I didn't like it. I told him, that there's a difference between running tights and underwear/baselayer tights too. Even then, the only time I wear tights under my pants is baselayer and that is rare. I only own one pair of baselayer tights for this very reason, and I always wear them with pants -- never shorts. In any event, he was surprised I didn't like it.
So, if it's so uncomfortable, why in the world do I see so many people wearing 3/4 or full length tights with shorts?
Every time I see it, I think of my experiences of how uncomfortable it feels and drives me crazy...
If you have a small penis I guess you can get away with it.
But really running in just tights look feminine not manly.
At your size you might want to consider that. -
Someone should tell the guys from the photo in this article to put some shorts overt their half tights

Can I get a simple definition on men’s tights and baselayers and running pants? I assume tights are skin tight, meant for athletic wear, may show bulge. I assume baselayers are skin tight, may have the fly opening (or faux fly stitching), and have a stretchy waistband like most men’s underwear. I assume running pants are not skin tight but still slim fitting, swooshy, maybe called warmup pants. Correct?
