I really don't care what or how folks dress, but today I was out running and saw some random guy running. I caught up to him and we got chatting. It sparked a rather interesting conversation.
He noticed I was wearing my 3/4 length UA running tights (not underwear/baselayer), and he commented that I'm fearless. In the back of my mind, I was like, huh? (Mind you, I'm 5'4" and weigh 120 lbs athletic build... not some fat geezer...) I only wear running tights with no shorts over them... in fact, I tried it once, and it was very weird feeling -- I hated it!!! My temporary running partner was surprised that I didn't like it. I told him, that there's a difference between running tights and underwear/baselayer tights too. Even then, the only time I wear tights under my pants is baselayer and that is rare. I only own one pair of baselayer tights for this very reason, and I always wear them with pants -- never shorts. In any event, he was surprised I didn't like it.
So, if it's so uncomfortable, why in the world do I see so many people wearing 3/4 or full length tights with shorts?
Every time I see it, I think of my experiences of how uncomfortable it feels and drives me crazy...
Why do people wear shorts over their pants (tights)?

Because nobody needs to be able to tell your religion just by the view tights afford.
Men should never wear tights. Ever. -
I sparingly will wear shorts over tights, but when I do it is always for the same reason, prevention of CPS (cold penis syndrome). You know, when it is exceptionally cold out, and your pee pee shrivils up like a frightened turtle. This is accompanied by a very painful throbbing that lasts for long after you have gone inside and warmed back up. If you run in a climate where this happens to you just once, it will forevermore be a consideration that crosses your mind when you are picking your wardrobe on a cold day.

I see no problem with it.
Honestly, I run with shorts over running pants/tights all the time. It's cold up here in Boston. -
Nothing like a man in sheer tights. Mmm.

Base layer over shorts crew here...
I have a few pairs of running tights/pants but don't care for them. Too restrictive -
Because a lot of my running is done to and from work. None of my work colleagues need to see the contours of my penis.

Thanks for the replies!! Some of you made both my girlfriend and my morning!
I wear tights with running briefs and it doesn't reveal hardly anything. I don't like wearing tights without running briefs for this very reason. When it's real cold out, I simply wear my base layer tights with pants or I stay inside and use my treadmill. Or one thing I've done was wear my running shorts under my running tights, but not over. Just way too uncomfortable to wear shorts over tights of any kind.
With that being said, some of replies are funny, and downright hilarious... my girlfriend (who also runs a lot) was laughing too. She said that it looks funny and comical when people wear shorts over tights. It's just like wearing shorts over a pair of jeans. Doesn't make any sense.
She says that there are times when she sees other women wearing tights that should not be, or should be following my advice and actually wearing underwear.
I agree with her totally... I see a lot of women wearing tights that expose that "area" and that is no different than seeing another mans penis or "area". I don't want to see that... it's gross. My girlfriend makes sure she is covered, and if it requires wearing underwear, so be it.
Yes, my girlfriend approves of me wearing tights 100%, as long as I am not showing anything off, or I'm not wearing base layer tights as my running tights. Heck, after we go for our runs, we go hit up the store and no one says nothing.
It is funny though, her and I do see a lot of people running in their underwear/base layer tights though at track meets and races... now that's hilarious! My girlfriend blames that on folks misunderstanding or manufactures being misleading. Seems like most don't know that difference between running tights that are meant to be worn alone, versus underwear/base layer tights.
In any event, I'll always wear my running tights when need because it is comfortable. But it's nothing like during the warmer weather wearing nothing but my Nike 2" running shorts and staying cool. My girlfriend pointed out that there are times my running shorts are shorter than hers... lol -

Too many references to a mythical "'girlfriend" -
This dumb s h i t only takes place in america. Africans train in nothing but tights, half and full. They don't have any type of complex, or add any sexual elements to it. It's just the best thing to train in. The tights keep the muscles warm and relaxed, and it limits muscle vibration.
I wear half tights and full tights when training, and I couldn't give a f o c k about what someone thinks. And more runners are actually racing in half tights than ever before. All the runners wore half tights in the breaking 2 project, and kipchoge wore half tights in Berlin.
This type of thinking does not take place anywhere else in the world.....only in this stupid country, because people don't know how to control their minds, and automatically relate to something sexual when it comes to the body. It's the same reason why you made this post. -
Yup, I totally agree.
That's why I will continue to wear what is comfortable. If it's tights half, 3/4 or full, it is what it is because I really don't care.
I just needed to vent a little...
Thanks! -
All men who are against wearing tights suffer from having a micropenis. With no bulge to show they feel inadequate, emaciated and embarrassed.
If you're one of these unfortunate individuals, don't lose hope. What you need is a so called "Freudian Slip". Just get two normal-sized oranges and glue them to your g-string.
To the casual observer it now seems that you're well hung when you wear your new running tights. Who nows what might come out of it? You might even get a girlfriend or a college degree, all thanks to your Freudian Slip. -
I think, even as recently as a few years ago, tights-alone was the norm and the standard.
However, in recent years, I have noticed that changing.
I now see more guys with shorts over tights than tights alone. So much so that in my mind, I am now surprised by seeing tights-alone (when the opposite was true before.)
I think it comes down to 'street culture' where guys do this a lot and also down to practicality. I see a ton of guys with their girls out after their runs; perhaps it's the male equivalent of running errands in their Lululemon yoga pants? -
As a gay man, i prefer some men wearing tights without the shorts.

Bulge is balls last time I checked no woman ever said F me with your balls.
6.5 long and 4.8 girth hardly micropenis but shorts over base layer tights for life. -
Because the guy was a homophobe and wishes he could come out of the closet. End of story.
By wearing tights you are comfortable with your sexuality and not perpetuating homophobia. Congratulations. -
Because that's what friends do.

I agree. I will say wear what feels comfortable. I wear the 3/4 a lot. I could care less what anyone thinks. F them!
