She can run mid-15:20s in a pro race.
Now to see how she converts this strength to the mile/3K.
Would she make good money with 15:20s(i dont know a whole lot about womens running)? Could she go pro right now?

If you felt you could run sub-15:20 in the right race, but instead ran 15:37 all alone while lapping those who were in your way, how excited would you be? There are only a handful of women in the US right now that can beat this girl and I'm not sure there are any in the NCAA.

Easy to predict really. She will never break 15 in her life. Peak in hs and burn out

She ran 15:37 today to best Brie Oakley's national record. Obviously, she is incredibly talented, I just hope she can hold this momentum into college and beyond. Can she be a factor on the world stage in the next 6+ years (when she would theoretically finish college)???
Discuss
Absolutely. The main factor of course is if her body does not change too drastically when she goes through puberty. Then if she is coached properly regarding mileage and injury prevention. This time is off the charts for a HS Girl, 5:02 pace to 5000m, a five minute mile is still a very good time for a HS Girl and she strings three in a row and is only a Sophomore ......wow. This is a very good time for a Division 1 woman. Ponder that.
She may be capable of running in the 15:20 range in a race like Peyton Jordan.
I wish her the best, I hope she stays healthy, she will be interesting to follow.

IAAF tables give it 1092 pts which is 13:33 for men, so move over Galen Rupp.

Oh crap. Just looked it up, and now Katelyn Tuohy has run a 5k faster than America’s 5000 American record holder had ever run in high school or college.
Shannon Rowbury had a 15:38 5k PR in college. She is 1:00 faster now as a pro.
Even more crazy, Katelyn Tuohy only needs to improve by 59 seconds to be the fastest American woman to ever run the 5k.
Burnout is so lame. Can't believe you internet trolls are still out there. #Toyko2020
That is more like it! I guess when you have been crushing everything for months, the novelty wears off a bit. It doesn't seem to be hurting her performances, that's for sure.
To the poster asking about the pro level: While she could get a decent pro contract right now (comparable perhaps to Drew Hunter), 15:20s/sub-9:00 isn't going to make any national teams. If she keeps up a decent progression, she could be a contender for the 2020 Olympic team, when she could be near 15:00, and a whopping 17 years old.....

In/out HS record. Record (15:45) was held by Cain, who has not run faster at 5000m since.
In/out 4th US Junior performance. Record (15:20) held by Disenza, who has not run faster at 5000m since.
Let's hope that she breaks the 5000m record "jinx"

She's an assasin. Mentally, reminds me of centro, northeastern grit.
BTW: Tuohy is now faster at 5000m than Hasay (her idol) was in College (15:37.12 vs 15:37.29).

The game has changed significantly since Hasay was the wunderkind winning Footlocker and breaking 1500m records.
I think, in part, due to Hasay herself.
There's something about this girl that I find myself disagreeing with the lot of you. Something about her tells me she will continue. Maybe it's her stronger body (fast girls her age are sometimes shockingly thin) or it's her carefree attitude, but I have a feeling she's going to be on the national stage in no time.
(Not to say that she won't have a couple years of slower times; it's inevitable for young women in the age 17-20 age range who are still growing. I just have a feeling she will come out stronger.)

...also, Tuohy's 2 mile split was faster than Hasay's best HS 2 mile of 9:55.57.
Can we all agree that she is on a completely different level.
This girl has already gone through puberty. She is no pre pubescent girl who looks like she’s 10. Cain also had gone through puberty by her jr year.

It is so easy to predict "burnout" for any HS phenom. Its old. Its unoriginal, and not interesting. Just stop it.

It is statistically likely, we get it. It is like picking every hot girl at your high school graduation and saying "she gets fat and gross in middle age!"
Yeah, youre probably right, but youre basing it on the chances across the group, not any one individual.
There are girls running 18 flat in high school probably just as likely to burn out in college. But posting constantly about that seems stupid.

What kind of lifting does she do?
She runs a phenomenal race and has one of the best athletic performances ever by a HS athlete in any sport, and your initial reaction is "but does she even lift?"
Do you even lift?
I heard she's a Dreamer. Time to deport her and leave American records to American athletes.

Let's put this in further perspective: Hasay's PR for 5,000 is 15:28.56.
someone please tell me how to get arms and legs like hers. im dying to know
