So much for keeping Historic Hayward Field, "Historic..." What would Pre be thinking right now?!?

What happened?
They still shake when they speak of the PR's I set there in the late 90's.

Great idea! Let's tear down the most iconic, high quality track and field venue in the country for the prestige of one meet overshadowed by entitled bureaucrats. Then afterwards, it can be an empty shell of what it used to be and completely lose all the character that made it what it was!
Should have just slapped down a track in the football stadium or somewhere in Portland rather than this slow moving disaster. This won't end well, that's about 99% sure.

This is letsrun. We don't do confirmation.
A 30,000 or 40,000 seat permanent track stadium to host one meet is such a stupid idea, especially in a town without hotels. It's a great way to make the stadium feel empty when "only" 8,000 people show up for a domestic meet. Hayward will never be full again (unless Nike buys another worlds).
I love meets in Eugene, but I'm starting to wonder if Austin would have been a better place for it. Have to be later in year like September but don't they already have a 20,000 seat stadium? What stadiums as is are close to having capacity?
Lot easier to go from 20 to 30. Now I doubt Uncle Phil would want to spend however many millions he's going to spend for Worlds in Austin but this whole thing depends on his group paying for the renovations to Hayward Field right? And Hayward only need to be bigger for really this one time event.

Just looked at the U of T track on Google Maps. Plenty of room there to squeeze in some more seats, especially on the back stretch. Also, there also has to be some place in the LA area that could have hosted the World Champs without too much of a quagmire.
So visions and dreams and egos have trumped practicality for this Worlds. Nice job, Nike, nice job.
Blatant pay-to-play between Phil and the Governor, the whole thing was wrong from the start.
But Historic Hayward Field has the Knowledgeable Fans™ of Eugene they always talk about on the TV broadcast
They better not start before April 29. Looking forward to finishing the Eugene Marathon on that track. I've been to Hayward once but have never run there.
The ongoing FBI investigation has stifled WC construction. Too many questionable transactions had occurred.
Nike paid for the World Championships. Follow the money.

Drake University is just over 14,500. They're grateful for this debacle and the opportunity to potentially host USA's more often.

If that's the case then the FBI wants to see Nike pay from their own corporate accounts and not use UO money, nor taxpayer money. Otherwise there will be indictments.
Hopefully they use the venues space for a huge parking garage. Also don't they have that little 200m track off to the side??? See people no need to be upset!!!
As if you needed any confirmation that all this supposed fealty to tradition at Oregon was really just a marketing exercise.
Many national athletics federations will be establishing official training camps in Southern California for IAAF WC 2021 Eugene where athletes and families can train and enjoy recreation all summer. Las Vegas, Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite, Malibu, hundreds of miles of beaches, Grand Canyon, Hollywood, etc. are places to see and enjoy.
World Champs is just and excuse to spend money on new construction. They need the write off. If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch this:
