That course is Brutal and rolling the whole time, it was very windy, not to mention humid in the 70's. very Fast on that course! Beat a couple fast marathoners in boot.

BERMUDA IS Freakin' HUMID HUMID HUMID
Exactly! So this performance, Time, etc is incredible and he beat two good runners in the process. people are missing the point how not ideal weather it was while running Sunday.
brutal course, heat, humidty, Kuddos to anyone who can run sub 2:30 on that course is clearly close to 2:20-2:22 on a course like chicago, hands down!
This so-called 20-minute guide could only apply to ironman elites...no way mid-packers could run only 20 min off their marathon best at any ironman distance event. I would say the 20-minute guide is the peak for elites, while that 20 minutes would grow rapidly for everyone else as you move down the results.
Stats on the Race sunday morning:
Race start it was 72 degrees (8am)
85% Humidty
15 MPH Winds.
Defiantly not ideal running weather for a marathon, on a tough course as well, this is a performance that is more then amazing. it had to of been a SWEAT FEST! Anyone who run sub 2:40 on that day was definitely in shape to run much faster.
Very impressive run. Would like to see what he could run on a flatter course 2:22-23 ? with same effort.
Cristian Bustos ran a 2:16 open
regardless, 2:27 on a course like Bermuda is FAST, in those Conditions let a lone. simply astounding.
By doing the Conversion of Jack Daniels It looks like you can take 3-4 minutes off his time given just the heat index (72 degrees) alone.
For Example:
2:27= 2:23-2:24 on that Course in Cooler conditions (55 or below)
2:28=2:24-2:25
2:29=2:25-2:26 etc..
Plus given the fact that it was 14.8 mph winds which is not included you can take another 1-2 minutes off that time as well
So if you do that a 2:27 minus the Heat (2:23-2:24) + minus the Wind(2:22-2:23) + the course being hilly you can take another minute or 2 off again.
So you are looking at a Real Performance(effort) of a 2:20-2:21 by the 2:27 which was ran in Bermuda on that day. Pretty Impressive!!!!
.
Mark Sisson ran 2:18 open and Allen in his prie was as good a runner.
Sara Dossena ran 2:29 at NYCM last Fall but I can't find if she has done a long-course triathlon.
Triathlon seems to be about like ultras in the times of the top competitors when they got to open road marathons or track 10000s. They are often top in their chosen specialty and strong second-tier elites on the roads.

But Rupp is still just a 2:09 runner, right?
Why is it we always say: I wonder what time would a non-runner get? Do triathletes say " I wonder what time Mo would get in an ITU race or how many points he would get score in the NBA game.
Bump - was looking at a friend's results from the Boulder Half Ironman today and noticed that Buttefield ran 1:11.56 for the Half at the end of his second place finish.
While the best guys run well under 70min at Worlds (
) , 72min at altitude is impressive.
No clue if this guy was peaking for this race but a 2:27 alone in conditions like that makes me think he could run low-2:20s at a Berlin/Chicago with ideal temps, maybe even going a little quicker with a specific build-up.
Either way, 20-25 minutes, maybe a max of 30, seems to be about right between an open marathon and a marathon in an iron.
