Recommend you separate Coach Scott Simmons duties ... the American Distance Project from WCAP. Indeed, these two programs are mutually exclusive less the coach and the training base.

WCAP: an American taxpayer funded program where the US Army recruits green-card East African NCAA athletes into its Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) category to support the GWOT. However, the US Army primarily utilizes these soldiers to exploit MAVNI's fast-track US citizenship loophole (6 months) and subsequently train under the WCAP for their entire enlistment versus defedning their country against East Africa based terrorist.

For Example: Most likely, Haron Lagat ran for the American Distance Project and paid his on way to Houston. Wheras on the same day, the US taxpayer underwrote the WCAPers participation in Edinburgh:

He did also beat the age 43 best with his 10k split of 28:43 (old record 29:00) , 15k with 43:32 (old record was 45:12 - actually, master record is 44:14, so he beat that too, but Geb was surely faster than that when he ran 1:01:09) and 20k with 58:40 (old record was 1:04:19 - master record also 1:01:37, but...)

...and what was his 10 mile split? That was probably a master record too.

What happened is that she was running a HM. Marathon is clearly her strong event.

this sport owes you nothing.

using my favourite race performance predictor I used Hasay's 2:20:57 from Chicago to calculate that she should be capable of 67:36 for the half, and I used Huddle's pb's from 5km (14:42) and 10km (30:13) to calculate that she was probably good for 67:39, so I was expecting a good tussle between these two and that just didn't happen. Hasay was off the pace from the get-go and 11 seconds down at 5km and drifting farther back as the race progressed. so the question is: is she just excellent at the marathon or is she under-performing at the half?

further questions:

1) does anyone know where this performance puts Hasay on the US all-time list. she is obviously at least 3rd behind Huddle 67:25 and Kastor 67:34, but has any other American lady beaten 68:38?

2) does anyone have Hasay's splits from Houston. I got her as 15:59 at 5k and 32:05 (16:06) at 10k but the 15k and 20k splits don't seem to have been published anywhere.

Those splits are terrible for someone thinking "Boston, Boston, Boston".

Why is the 1:08:38 time of Jordan Hasay listed on top of 5 other times on the list which are actually faster in reality?

Jordan is a LetsRun.com favorite.

She ran as hard as she could today. Great young runner, but don't fall for everything someone says after a race. Huddle is running Boston too and Hasay definitely wanted to beat her today, she said so herself.

Today, she couldn't run with her, it has nothing to do with Boston over 3 months from now. You guys will fall for anything.

Best thing that could have happened to Jordan. Flanagan and Huddle are the clear favorites for the USA at Boston now and Hasay can relax and go in as the underdog! Alberto told her to take it out conservatively, almost like he planned this to happen :)
