It is not without precedent (Gerry Lindgren, among others) that a high school kid beats an adult they aren't supposed to. Physics doesn't care what your name is or how old you are. It only cares about your power:weight ratio. Well, of course that isn't completely true, but hopefully you get my point. Odds of Tuohy being able to run away from Flanagan at 3K? I'd say 1:7. I'd put my money on Flanagan, of course, but Tuohy hasn't been pushed in a long while and she's a fierce competitor so who knows. If someone can solo a 9:05 while going around lapped runners and not having the adrenaline that is normally present when you aren't sure if you can win or not, I'd say Tuohy is in 8:50 shape or faster.

if you think Tuohy wouldn't have run faster than 9:05 in this race you definitely donated way too much blood recently. there is a real possibility that Tuohy would have beaten Flanagan.
When was the last time you donated blood? I don't really think it makes sense to compare; but even though Flanagan is a marathoner primarily now, do you really think she couldn't kick hard enough to drop Tuohy?
