You do realize there's a dozen other countries that would have been able to confirm a DPRK missile launch even if both the US and North Korea denied it. Also the US military would LOVE to proudly announce that they have mastered shooting down ballistic missiles. It would say to everyone that your current nuclear capabilities cannot beat our defenses.
Damn dude you must be so smart

Please don't corrupt this thread with logic and common sense. It's far too entertaining . The real challenge is to try to determine who really believes this nonsense and who is just trolling. Unfortunately I think the trolls have won. They have thrown in so many conspiracy variations that the real kooks have given up and are trying to stop their heads from spinning.

0/10 ? You're weird...don't you have any homework to do? ?
The only course I’m taking this semester is a graduate course on quantum field theory, and no, I have no homework but I do have a paper to write. Thank you for asking. Please watch out for the spaceships, secret missiles, and spaceships launching secret missiles, it’s dangerous out there.
Argument from authority. I'm a homoepathic doctor myself, but you don't see me flaunting this fact to bolster my arguments. The Norks are going to pay for this, mark my words.

I think you are wrong here. There is no advantage to the US for revealing the strength of it's missile defense system. If a missile does hit US soil, chances are it is because the government allowed it to. Not wise to give up the goose now on a stray North Korean missile.

Following Occam's razor, the hacked answer is the best I've seen.
Applying Occam's razor to politics and diplomacy, where things are deliberately NOT as simple as they seem, is incredibly naive.
Then you have to explain who and how, which you don't even attempt. Quit trying to hide your cognitive bias behind science, you just want it to be hackers, and I'm sure I know hackers from where, too.
I did explain who and how. The state sponsors of doping I referred to were the Russians. The how is an alert system would have to be connected to the outside world to alert the outside world. The Russians could hack into it in less than 12 months, if not faster.

I'm not throwing out theories to troll. I also don't "believe" in any of them either. However, I do not feel the "wrong button" story passes the smell test. Since I suspect the official story his false, as do many logical observers, I thought I would start a thread to see if anyone could come up with a more plausible explanation.
Many of the theories posited here seem more plausible than someone pushing a wrong button. The idea that there are NO safe guards in place to seems very far fetched.
I 100% agree there was a real launch and the U.S. shot it down. DPRK can't admit it because they'd look like idiots for having failed, and nothing is more important in Asia than saving face. Trump now has a massive bargaining chip to use whenver he wants. He's not interested in invading DPRK because that costs money, and would be another case of nation building and he dislikes that as well. Brilliant play by Trump and one that Obama never could see.
Exactly. But I do wonder how deep the conspiracy goes and who’s all involved. I think it’s pretty obvious a reality TV Star as “president” is all part of the distraction to keep the people from knowing what’s reallly going on. So who’s actually in charge?
Amazing : Neither of you believe the wrong button was pressed yet in both of your replies the wrong button has been pressed:
The Guru Matt James with "the official story his false"
You get it with " what’s reallly going on"
Obviously neither of you made those mistakes so was it Russian hackers , a government conspiracy to discredit your intelligence, deep state operatives amusing themselves, a hidden message to North Korean agents, space aliens trying to learn English? Inquiring minds want to know.

You really have no idea how strategy works.
Bottom line is, North Korea will not launch a missile if they want to live past the 90 minutes after the launch. All of their moves are posturing to seem like their legitimate and they want to be treated as such. They don't need a ballistic missile to accomplish the goal of annihilation.
I think this was sent out so any potential attackers could get a glimpse of how utterly unprepared we'll be in the midst of an attack. It's practically plastered on every news site how everyone in HI had no idea what the fck to do. "I guess this is it" was the general consensus. Now whoever wants to bomb us knows we can't do anything.

Come on, think it through. Trump is a cartoon character who has totally dominated the news for at least the last year. You think a joke of a man like that was placed in the position of president by accident? You need to ask yourself what is really going on that is so serious that the people in real power had to take the extraordinary step to create such a distraction. What are they up to that needed this level of distraction? We're all being shown the left hand when you should be watching the right hand.

So you are saying that you believe the safeguards against accidentally triggering the incoming ballistic missile warning are equivalent to the safeguards in place to prevent someone from making a typo while using their phone to post on letsrun?
I have a bridge to sell you in Pyongyang.

These people are blinded by the message they are being sold. They refuse to look behind the curtain. Do you think a guy paying off porn stars would actually be the voice of the hard core religious right? Only if you get people to refuse to see what's right in front of them.

What would be the strategic benefit of using nuclear weapons to wipe North Korea off the face of the Earth -- To kill millions of civilians (bad PR) and set a precedent for other countries to follow -- when the missiles never had a chance to hit US soil anyways thanks yo the missile defense system.
This false alarm cover up removes any pressure to respond. Just a theory of course.
Should say "thanks to..." Sorry for the typo.

Groundless speculation isn't an explanation. You need evidence, Occam.
There is evidence that actual personnel with authorized access to the system were there. The only unproven part is that they pressed the wrong button.
