You people are ridiculous... belittling and comparing high school girls like this. Regardless of the IFs and the BUTs... Kelsey Chmiel, Claudia Lane, and Katleyn Tuohy are all proving themselves to be outstanding runners for their age, if not the best we have ever seen in the last decade. It's wonderful seeing how well they are performing now and I hope they all can keep improving and loving the sport. We are privileged enough to witness so many more exciting match ups to come from these young women.

Wrong - Lane ran away with a second-tier race at FL. FL couldn't get the best 2 runners in the US (Tuohy and Chmiel) to race in San Diego. I think Lane is a strong runner - but its like she won the basketball equivalent of the NIT the last two years, while the NXN was the equivalent of the "big dance." (Thats the main NCAA bball tournament, in case you have no life).
The onus is now on Lane to match up against Tuohy and Chmiel in Portland next Fall.
Bottom line- NXN is the National Championship. Footlocker is for people who can't win NXN. It's an exhibition race for good high school runners.

It's actually not like that at all. The NIT gets a few top 50 teams if that - FL gets a solid portion, if not the majority of the top 25 girls each year.
(For those who don't know anything about NCAA BB or HS XC)
9 of the top 10 girls at CA State went to NXN
9 of the top 10 rated girls in NY (according to Meylan) went to NXN
I agree NIT vs. NCAA Tournament isn't exactly a great comparison, because FLN does get some of the best athletes. But MOST of the best go to NXN these days, particularly on the girls side. It's been that way for most of this decade.

My highschool is right next to Saratoga which has made me friends with some Saratoga runners, Kelsey was trying to peak at nxn which she basically did considering she got 2nd at the national championships, also anyone saying Claudia was worn out from weeks of hard races is clearly ignoring the fact that Kelsey lost ever race she was in excluding federations for a month straight where as Claudia felt competition for the first time her junior year at Edinburgh.
Claudia hasn’t raced anything since footlockers. Kelsey has done three 1 mike races. She is in the middle of nys indoor season, Claudia has no indoor season so she is in the middle of her down season, Maybe this trip was just a fun trip for her. She clearly wouldn’t be as sharp racing wise as Kelsey.

As much as I agree with the benefits of doing Mikes, maybe you can just accept that Kelsey is objectively better as proven by, drumroll please... A head to head race!!!!!!

There you go. NXN/FL are more important than Edinburg. As poster above said. Chmiel focussed on NXN.
