I just don’t get it, why cheat? So much effort as well. I feel sad for this guy, he doesn’t understand what running is about. I hope this is a hard lesson learned when all is said and done. I also hope he and his wife don’t have children.

I've only won a handful of races in my life, but I ended in my prime with a 1:59 800m PR and 4:02 1500m PR. Some of the most fulfilling races in my life were ones I didn't finish first. Running is about pushing yourself past where you think you can go. This guy is clueless and a tool.
Derek's write-up suggests his BQ Marathon was Provo City Marathon (not Ogden as a previous poster mentioned), and that it was a large negative split. That course, though no longer a race, has 900-foot drop in the first half, where the half finishes at the finish line and then goes out into West Provo and loops back to finish. The second half is a net-zero gain/drop. So, it's not anywhere close to ideal for negative-splitting as the first half is substantially easier. Second, you pass the finish line at the halfway point and obviously that would be easier to take shortcuts after that than on the first half which is point to point. I think it's fair to assume he didn't run that BQ time honestly with a negative split.
Those curious to the course profile of his BQ, I found this random guy's activity while searching Strava for a map of it:
https://www.strava.com/activities/113281110/overview
(notice this chap positive split quite a bit).

I love that the RD stripped him of all prior wins but he's putting himself at risk for a defamation lawsuit.
He wasn't just stripped of prior wins. Data was available to check the prior races for the similar pattern of cheating loops. At the venue in Glendale, the RD was always smart enough to always have a far mat. Also, there is plenty of other evidence and witnesses at other races. This didn't happen just once. It just took time to catch him red-handed.
I love the fact there is a website called marathoninvestigation.com.
As if the Letsrun message board isn't enough, someone created a website specifically to look for running cheaters.
And at levels that aren't major.
I am fascinated by anyone's desire to cheat in a low key race and I am just as fascinated by the quest to call these people out.

Creating your own website in a QUEST to call out 3:48 marathon PR cheaters also has a name:
1) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

This guy was a professional runner who had several sponsorships.

It turns out that he is just like you.
A professional runner with a sponsorship who cheated...a long time ago...because you were a doper.
Oh well.
Let's be very clear in this case. This cheat exposure has rocked the ultrarunning sport. The runner in question was a sponsored, self-described full-time runner who had mid-pack ability, yet scammed multiple races, gathering at least 13 wins, "raping" several course with bogus course records. He duped all but a few determined competitors. He did this with careful planning, becoming good friends with all the RDs, and going home with all those trophies, wins, course records, and accolades from adoring fans. Derek has tried to explain he didn't uncover this at all. He was an outlet to make sure it stopped once and for all.

There is always a few sociopaths on these threads who crawl out from under their rocks to attack the people who catch cheaters. It's sad that scum like you people exist; people who can't see the difference between cheating and catching a person cheating, or worse, think those who catch the cheats are the ones in the wrong. I always wonder if you pieces of shlt were born the way you are or if you just had a lot of really bad things happen to you which removed any moral compass.
That's a pretty crappy way to cheat.

No Derek is a creepy stalker who uses LR to drive traffic to his site - which is pretty fraudulent if you ask me.

Oh please. It’s entirely proper to question Derek and his improper methods. No one defends the cheats if the criticize Derek. It’s not a zero sum game. Nor do we thinks it ok. I do have due processand other concerns.
Derek is more concerned about trying to make money off his obession and doesn’t care about the sport. He loves self promotion and calling media to get his story. He’s not even a runner. I know Derek isn’t perfect in his life but I don’t seek to publicize every persons transgressions.

You believe that Derek is seeking to publish "every persons transgressions" to make money? Gosh, I thought he just posted storied about people who cheat at running races. Does he have another wed site?
It's funny that you use a word like "transgression" in an attempt to trivialise cheating. Your bias is pretty obvious and compounded with your dishonesty in describing what Derek does. Derek is clearly not publishing "every persons" little mistakes. He clearly only looks for people who cheat at races and from what I have seen, and especially with Kelly, these are clearly not accidental mistakes but planned and deliberate cheating.
Go ahead and tell us what "due process" was violated in Derek's current article.
This guy was a douche when he was on RWOL, and continued that in person. I'm glad he's finally been outted.
I personally thank Derek for having an outlet in this case to make this cheat stop. Even with the DQ, the runner was telling others that there had been a mistake made by the race staff. Clearly he hoped that this would blow over. With Derek's public report, now proper awards are being put together for the proper winners, across multiple years. Again, Derek didn't uncover this for gain. He didn't uncover it at all. He kindly respsponded to requests for help and made more public what was already public. There was no "transgression," here. It was years of plotting, planning, stealing, and deceiving. The kind, private means to stop the runner were tried. They didn't work.

You would know, Kelly.
I'm the sociopath for being amused at both sides of these obsessive people?
Those that cheat to run a 3 hour marathon and those that spend hours searching databases for skipped check points for 3 hour marathoners?
Maybe the guy in the subject is at a higher level but he is certainly no Olympian.
A sociopath has OCD and spends a lot of effort on one thing and gets very emotional or completely devoid of emotion.
I'm just making a quick quip on this.

What do you cheat at in life that makes this a sore point for you?
Thou dost protesteth too much. Were you in the porta-john with him?
