I loathe attempts to convert times based on course, weather, or other PRs. I understand people want to convert from altitude or maybe convert sprint times based on wind speed, but saying that someone's 4:01 mile is easily equivalent to a 3:59 since he ran a 65 first lap, or it was windy, or his shoelace was untied, or he's also run 1:46 and 7:48 drive me crazy.
Rupp might knock out a 2:05 one day. Or he might win more marathons with times that enable him to win. I'm a fan and I think he's one of the greatest runners American has ever produced. But this obsession with claiming he's a "this time guy" based on other times are ridiculous.
And I know I'm troll feeding.
Agreed! At this stage of his career I would think his ficus will be on wins.
He has a medal, appearance money and prize money will be big for him as Americas top marathoner.
He may get pulled along in one the faster majors for a fast time, but he wants the wins or high finish.
