I used to work in a bowling alley. I don't have 15 lb balls but there was a pair of size 18 shoes I wore (if you know what I mean) when I was bowling.

What I want to know is, why is it when I get seated in an empty restaurant, they always sit the next party that comes in RIGHT NEXT TO ME when they could spread people out a bit and give them some space?
I get that it must be more efficient but we're talking about a waitress walking an extra 10 feet or something.

This reminds me of the person who chooses the treadmill beside mine when then are twenty other empty treadmills to choose from.
I usually only eat out for business meetings and nobody wants to hear the next booth talking about interest rates and risk management. Next time I'll ask for a 1-booth cushion out of courtesy of the other diners.

I have a favorite treadmill I use. Not my fault if you happen to choose the one right next to it.
I also often ask this question and to be honest, it really annoys me...Most often, this is done by waiters in some cheap restaurants. So I try to go only to good places where I know that I will get a nice attitude and service. By the way I want to recommend you a great site that I visit every time I want to choose a new place to go in San Diego. There you will find a large number of different entertainment, and most importantly, all these places definitely deserve your attention.
Just to piss you off, OP
I find this situation is okay, especially since premium restaurants always keep free tables to be ready if some celebrity visits them. Some waiters can wait till their reservation table is cleaned. In other cases, restaurants have the rule not to overwhelm their kitchen, so sometimes they use this strategy. Personally, I prefer to order food and enjoy my meal at some good terrace or a picnic. Of course, in winter, the time I go to the restaurant, but often I prefer visiting some parties in Orlando during the winter times. We have a lot of Orlando party venues.
