So, it looks as if both the plate and the midsole are made of different materials; only the Vaporfly has full carbon and Pebax.

No, someone re-raised that question on a thread of mine, but it wasn't my question, and the question on my thread wasn't the original asker, either. That question IS the reason I reached out to Nike, however.

Regardless, it sounds like the answer is "yes, we are getting the same plate in both colors of the VP4%, but not the ZF".

I couldn’t find the hubby Vaporflys for Chicago for love or money, and we just got the Zoom Fly Flyknits in the post today.

From what I understand:

Vaporfly = Zoomx foam + Carbon Plate + super light

Zoom Fly = Zoomx foam (same as Vaporfly) + carbon-infused nylon plate

Zoom Fly Flyknit = React foam + carbon plate (same as Vaporfly)

Would the consensus of knowledgeable people be that the Flyknit or regular ZFs would be quicker? i.e Zoomx foam > Carbon plate (or vice versa)

The carbon plate in the new Flyknit is the same(?) as the Vaporfly, but the React foam in the new Flyknit is not the same as the ZoomX. The VF w ZoomX is 2oz lighter with more energy return. How much more? About $90 worth :-)

No, the foam is completely different between the two shoes. (I’ve had both.) I’m not saying this to be an annoying prig...the difference in foam is enormous...there’s really no comparing the shoes. They’re not the same shoe or even all that similar. The Reebok RunFast is closer to the VF4% than the ZoomFly is.

I am a size 14. I can relate :-)

I advise you to call around to local stores in big cities. There are certainly size 13 VFs out there. And, I agree with the above poster: The Reebok Floatride Fast is closer to the VF than the ZoomFly is.

The Vaporfly doesn't weigh 6.5 ounces in size 9 or 10. Closer to 7.7 ounces.

It's not so much the energy return as it is the extremely high compliance (compressability). Boosts also have super-high energy return, but they aren't as soft.

ZoomX likely allows you to transfer some of the cushioning that would otherwise be provided by the eccentric contraction of the quads (which requires energy) into the passive cushioning of the shoe. Basically it lets you run with a stiffer leg.
