About 6 mos. I'd easily PR in every distance that way.

As long as Eliud was there i feel like i could stay. It would take years to feel like I’d absorbed what he had to offer to an extent it was time to move on. He is so genuine. A true inspiration. As a coach i can’t imagine someone who could teach me more than him. I would be forever grateful to live a life with minimal peripheral stimulus for at least 2.5 years. At that point i fear the honeymoon would wear off, as it does with all things. But 2.5 years of that life would net about 7-17 years at my current rate. My god what i am doing. I need to go to Kenya.
Sondre Moen is pretty much doing this, right?
The better question is how long could you live the Matt Centrowitz lifestyle? Run once or twice a day, nap, play video games the remaining 10 hours of the day.
Living Kipchoge's life as he does in Kaptagat when in training is not easy. Looks good from a distance but in reality to train with that focus with little distraction requires a lot of sacrifice. That is why very few American elite runners live that life. And why America is second tier in world class distance running.

Remember the letsrun article about kipchoges life in the training camp? How long could you do it? Running at 6:00 am, chores, simple diet, naps, afternoon run, no TV, no family.
I would last maybe 3 weeks before I realized that my talent level doesn’t justify that level of dedication. I
I would live his simple lifestyle indefinitely, but I could not sustain the intensity level of his training for very long (volume, frequency, relative pacing, etc)

And we have my second nominee for worst post of the year.
You wouldn't give a dollar to the woman who has been raising your kids? Having been a father for four weeks, I can tell you right now, that's a hard ass job.
+ 10!!! ^^^^

I'd prefer the Nick Symmonds variety.

That it correct. I would not. I do not envy those who do. I could not live YOUR lifestyle for 1 day. It is a fate worse than death.
Of course, not all agree with my values and adopt them as their own. You do not. Kipchoge does not. Meb does not. He doesn't have access to 2/3 of what he earns. It's fine with me that all of you do this. I don't have a dog in the fight. You wouldn't be sending the scratch to me otherwise.
The OP's question was about MY ability and desire to live the Kipchoge lifestyle. I could not do so for 1 day and pointed out why. I answered the question honestly. I am tolerant of you and various people with dissimilar opinions and actions to my own. You are not. You (and plenty of people do) feel that I am wrong for not being willing to fund the deadbeat moms of the world.
Good luck with your chosen lifestyle. Have fun with your 70% pay cut!
His hard part of the lifestyle is the training sessions. The rest is nonsense. He just rests in between the sessions. Don’t get to impressed from the pictures of him holding a broom. The reason they live in a training camp is to be away from their families so they won’t be bothered, like Farah goes to the other side of the world
I would be able to endure that lifestyle if the work = the rewards.
But, in my 50's, not worth it. But, I would have no problem living that lifestyle in my 20's and 30's to achieve a much better result in my times

Sounds like a great life. Sign me up!

There is something appealing about this almost monastic lifestyle. You do have to make sacrifices but if your head is in the right place, they ain't sacrifices. Chores? Please! Sure as hell beats doing a meaningless job with a bunch of pretentious SOBs everyday like most of us have to endure.
Eliud is practically a god at this point.

We teachers call this "Summer Vacation" and "Christmas Break".
The high school teachers I know make $90k+ and travel the world every summer. A few recently retired each with full pensions and $500k+ in retirement savings.
How long can you keep this going:
2 jobs - one very physical full time job, one part time
A family of four to tend to
A house to fix up including the building of two additions that you do most of the work
A coaching job
Two major volunteer efforts each year
80-120 miles per week of running
I did this for over ten years
Kipchoge's lifestyle sounds easy now. I'll bet his childhood was not easy though. I wouldn't trade places but I'm not intimidated by any of these guy's mount of work and sacrifice.

If it included seeing my family every day then I could do it forever. I don't care about job or career anymore, just want to do what I love (running) and keep everything else simple. I also don't care if I'm slow (which I am)
Damn straight. Same here. The real question is how long could EK live my life.
