In Alan Webb’s legendary mile American record, they talk about Steve Scott’s Ghost a lot.
Have you ever chased your own ghost after a lot of time off and beat it, i.e. tried to PR after a lot of time off?!
Let’s hear some stories please!

After I retired, I once smashed my TT record on Toad's Turnpike only to come back and DROP THE HAMMER on my ghost and PR by half a second.
As a 30 year old, I ran a 5k PR, 16:05. The PR replaced my 16:36 PR I ran as a high school senior.
I *retired after 3 injury-plagued years on the D1 circuit, and left running entirely for about 8 years. At 33 I set a road best of 15:02/5K, and at 35, road bests of 32:11/10K, 69:55/HM, and 2:27:12.
Serbian Masters National Championship, massive PR at category M35-39 (just shy of an M40).
Former "ghost" has been caught up.

Which one are you?
The "rabbit"
Was a promising runner with mild PR in the 14 minutes for 5k and 30 low something for 10k. Perhaps had a lot more potential, at least it appeared that way at that point. Went to jail for 5 years. I was well into 6 figures and blew a lot of it carelessly. Unfortunately, I really didn't care anymore at that point. When I managed to return I had a good job but thought about quitting. Decided to quit and take my pension and risk everything I had left, even my life. Ran it up to over a million in the streets of NOLA and then in Vegas. But that life wasn't for me. I returned to school and earned a useful degree and got a nice career. Came back to running and PR'ed in 10k, and got within 10 seconds of 5k PR. Also ran a sub 2:20 marathon. Now I try to help others and make a difference in their lives. I think I was destined for this. I used to be a good person who just didn't really fit in. Now I'm a great person who also fits in. But my story could have been disastrous. I thank all who showed me support and direction, instilling confidence and happiness to get where I'm supposed to be. Never give up.
I chased down and nosed out my age 15 4:40 mile ghost with a blazing 4:38.5 at age 43. I think I was another race or 3 away from a serious drop into the low 4:30s and beyond, but never found out.
No chance of ever catching up to my real PRs, but I'll take it.
The comeback goat is hands down Eric Fernandez.

If you want different results you must take different measures? Go where you hadn't gone in your youth. No fap challenge, beat your ghost. No fap challenge, the three taboo words of LRC! The secrets THEY don't want YOU to know. That, and the doper stone glass.
Currently in the process of chasing my ghost. I ran 16:12 5k in high school, and just ran a 16:37 a week shy of my 31st birthday. Trying to break 16 min and maybe even 15 min. I have progressed from about 19:45 to 16:37 on a bit under five months of loose training after 10 years of not training seriously. Set new PRs for 10k, 5 miles, and half marathon. I’m interested to see where this goes and plan to keep training hard.
I didn’t run in my 20s or 30s, but I ran 2:57 in the marathon when I was 20 in 1997 .....and 2:26 at 41 in 2017. So I chased down the demon.
I'll bloody break 13:30 and 4 minutes. And I got big balls.

Every post on this thread is incredibly positive and inspiring...especially for LRC!
"40isthenew30" can you provide some insight into your training?

What?
I came back after an injury layoff of about two years when I was in my late teens early 20's. I thought I was finished because the injuries kept coming back.
I've since had over 35 years of running and in that time I beat my high school PR's and had a very successful "local" career racing.
Very gratifying and I'm a very healthy 58 year old as a result.
