First time in a sports tournament/playoff where an entire conference goes undefeated in post season play but doesn't win anything for it. Sucks to be Ohio State/Wisconsin

They are 2-0 with FIVE more bowl games to go. I'll give you credit for the title of the thread. And OSU and Wisco don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Urban Cryer couldn't talk his way into it this year.

MSU wins in a blow out last night. And the SEC wants to say they're the greatest. What a joke

Iowa 55, OSU 24.
How many teams are in the Big 10 (or B1G as I call it)?
It's pathetic to keep track of bowl games which are outside the playoff system.

Not really a BIG fan. This was more of a critique of the playoff system as likely the best conference in the sport isn't even going to play for the championship. This doesn't happen in any other sport.

It doesn't matter if it's the best conference or not. Every team in it is clearly outside the top 4. I'd be all for a 16 or even 32 team playoff if they get rid of conference championship games and meaningless bowls (and start the playoff a few weeks earlier).

Well, Harbough can't win a big one, so more likely 6-1.

Every team is clearly outside the top 4? By what argument? Alabama beat LSU and is therefore a top 4. Troy should be in there as well then.

Are you nuts enough to think a conference should have an automatic bid in a playoff which is limited to 4 teams?

I don't want this thread to turn into who should/should not be in. Just a point of observation as to why the best team in the best conference should get a chance to play for it all

A power 5, yes.
MORANS.
I laugh at everyone calling for major conference winners to get guaranteed slots. That's how it used to be and the playoff system was a direct result of years of critiques against that. The playoff system is so much better.
I do agree that there are a ton of teams, though, and I'd rather we picked something like 8 teams for the playoffs instead of 4. The gripe here is we'd be asking the kids to play too many games. I do think there are competing variables. At least it is better than it used to be.

For the power 5 to have automatic bids it would be necessary to have more than 4 spots in the playoff, genius. I'm not opposed to that but it isn't the system.
Answering my own question, it appears there are 14 (14!) teams in the "Big 10". Do they not know how to count?? #sad

It is what it is because it still ain't a NCAA playoff. The whole FBS thing is operated by a Texas entity called CFP Administration, LLC.
This year's true NCAA football playoffs resulted in these national champions: Mount Union (D-3) and Texas A&M Commerce (D-2). James Madison & NDSU will meet on Jan. 6th for the D-1 FCS title.

Context is a hard thing to grasp, I know. In the instance of a SEC West loser who didn't even make the conference title game getting over the BIG 10 champion, the championship game should have pushed the BIG into the playoff.

Bowls are not meaningless. I think you don't really know what you are talking about.
