I realize it has some serious running cred but it seems like Boston is wretched racist backwater that barely deserves the term "city." Thoughts?

Boston has problems just like every other big city. Overall it has a lot of cool things going for it: multiple good nightlife scenes, boating in the bay and ocean, arts, etc. It may not be the first place you think of when you picture great American cities, but it still beats places like Houston, Cleveland, etc.
Depending what you are looking for, it isn't far behind the big attractions like New York, SF, etc. It is in the same level as cities like New Orleans, Seattle, etc. Each are a little different and may be a great fit for different people, and a decent fit for most people.
The biggest racists in Boston live in the wealthy neighborhoods.
The poor people don't develop buildings, don't own rental properties, don't own businesses and sports teams, don't own the Globe.
The Globe loves to point fingers at the working people of Boston.
Yessir!!
Boston is terrible. Awful.
Stay away at all costs if you are a reader of this message board.

I never did like Boston, but its primarily because its in the way of getting from where I am (RI) to where I'm usually going (my cabin in Maine). And primarily due to the fact that if I leave early and its a weekday, I have to be up at 4 AM, leave by 4:30 AM and be North of Boston by 5:45 AM. otherwise its a clusterf&&k traffic wise. The traffic is the second worst I've ever seen, LA is the worst. Course NYC is right up there also.

Beats places like Houston? ha! are you kidding? Is that why everyone is moving to Houston?
New Orleans and Seattle on the same level? What? Seattle is absolutely fantastic and New Orleans is one of the worst places in the entire country by almost any metric imaginable save the awesome food. If there ever where shithole city, it would be New Orleans.

You can't think of New Orleans as the worst American city. You have to think of it as the best third world city.
All I have to say is that Houston is a horrible, horrible sprawl of highways, bad architecture, and humidity that should be avoided at all costs. It's everything that's wrong wtih a modern city.
Not wanting to be a second Detroit or Chicago is called racism these days?
No, on the Newton hills, especially Heartbreak Hill (the last of the Netwon hills) have a bit of a hellish feel to them. The rest of the 'thon course is quite pleasant.

This is why I love and miss Houston. The weak and the lazy are weeded out and you don't have to deal with them messing up your parks, festivals, restaurants, ball parks, museums, etc.
As far as Boston goes, they put on a good marathon and have some really good food and bars. And despite not being a Red Sox fan, the ballgames are pretty awesome too.
If you are White, Boston is a paradise. If you are black of brown Semitics, Boston is racist as HELL.

Yes. Race baiting trolls are a dime a dozen here @ LRC, so your act could use different material.
For what it is worth, I think Boston handily beats Chicago and NYC. The only place I would call a hell hole is Kīlauea.
Boston quality of life sucks but at least the salaries are competitive and the people are generally bright. Winters are awful.
Colorado is much better except the salaries suck but it's worth it IMO
CO people aren't as impressive in the job market so you stand out more. If you have a brain your skills are highly valued since the people generally aren't as bright and competitive as in the Northeast.
Boston is the most racist city in the US
Have you ever been to Austin? Most liberal city in Texas and the most racist.
John Utah has made some terrible posts but this one takes the cake! You’ve managed to be one of the most moronic posters on LetsRun which is quite a feat!
