26 Jan ISTAF indoor Berlin
03 February Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe
Come to Germany.
PSD Bank Meeting Düsseldorf - Feb. 6
Last year the winner was under 7:45. Top four or so were under 7:52.
http://blog.psd-rr.de/meeting/
A flight out of las vegas was under 600 usd through google flights
Boise State 200 meter banked on February 10th Nampa, Idaho.
Valentine definitely can draw a good field on the right year (2014 and 2015 each had 8 guys sub-8 and 7:50/7:51 winners) but there are also plenty of years where 8:05+ takes it (8:11 in 2016).
BU Terriers 3 weeks earlier (Jan 27 weekend) is far more consistent with a sub-8 winner every year since 2011 and 12 sub-7:55 runs in that same timeframe compared to 4 at Valentine
If you can get into the Millrose 3k then that's the obvious choice even if it is a week before your ideal date. 7:52 would be back of the pack in that crowd

Just found this thread.
This is great. Go big or go home.
The LetsRun singlet has never raced in continental Europe.

BU Valentine meet is the obvious choice. At the Mini Meet on the 16th, the 3k was won in 7:44. A MINI MEET. Pony up that trust fund money and hire some pacers. There are plenty in the area.
Bumping this up. Anyone here in Europe. It might be cheaper to fly there for a race than to hire pacers.
Although hiring pacers and giving it a go is a good option if there are other quality racers.
email me if you know of anything

Lol good luck actually getting into one of those European meets. You still have yet to mention who the athlete trying to break 7:52 is, which makes me think that they probably will also have to PR to get there, let alone get accepted into a high quality field (not to mention place top two at US indoors if they’re American).
Thanks for the replies everyone. Indeed, I will need to PR to go sub 7:52. It's an interesting dead zone where good collegiate races going 7:58 are too slow but most of the pro meets are too fast. The guys qualifying for NCAAs almost exclusively do it at oversized tracks. The good thing is that if you have a good rabbit you don't really need a race. That's what happened at the BU mini meet.
I'm in flagstaff and adapting pretty well to the altitude. I'll share some of the training JK has had me do and I'm excited to hear how I'll never break 7:52 let alone 8:02.
The Camel City invite at JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, NC is on Feb 3rd. It is 200m, but flat (that might be a deal breaker), the 3k had 2 under 7:52 last year (Chelimo and Lee Emmanuel). Depending on the credentials going in it should be an easy enough race to get into though (I would contact the meet director soon though since they set the fields early).

Whoops, I missed the "banked track" qualifier. I assume USATF does not do the flat track conversions that the NCAA does.

2 questions. 1. What are your PRs at all distances? 2. Who even are you?
Go to Track and Field News. Click on calendars. They have all the major US and European meets listed.

the only fast 3km indoors in the UK before 10 Feb is hosted by the British Milers Club. as an overseas entrant at or near the elite level you would be guaranteed an entry. the downside is it's in Glasgow, Scotland, at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Sun 7th Jan.
Cheers.
At some point will we know who the runner is? And will JK share the training? I would love to see what changes in training over a 17 year period.
In Flagstaff right now and training hard for up to two attempts at the world standard starting in three weeks. JK's been coaching me since I graduated college and, though the past year has mostly been a building year, I'm very excited about how far I've come. My PRs are 3:43, 7:58, and 13:57. The 7:58 is from two years ago and I think it's very likely it can go down.
My last week of training looked like this:
Sunday, 31 Dec 2017: 4 mi am / 10 mi pm
Notes: felt kind of heavy but decent run still
Monday, 1 Jan 2018: 7.00 mi
Notes: good run, felt fresh, 6 strong strides on roads
Tuesday, 2 Jan 2018: Tempo 12 12 8 + hill strides @ 3000ft
5:02/mile, 2.38 mi, 3 min rest
4:58/mile, 2.43 mi, 3:30 rest
4:53/mile, 1.64 mi
each loop had a tiny drop overall, climbing about 20 ft in the first mile and then descending about 40 feet the rest of the way. fast course. camp verde
jogged 10 min and did 4 short fast hill sprints up a ~40 ft hill
lift in PM
Wednesday, 3 Jan 2018: 4 mi am / 10 mi pm
Notes: feeling good
Thursday, 4 Jan 2018: 5 mi am / 5 mi pm
Notes: really feel like i'm adapting to the altitude. easy days actually feeling easy
Friday, 5 Jan 2018: Intervals 2x5x100 + 2x600 @ sedona (4500 ft)
Notes: mini workout. full recovery. 3 min after 600s.
16.1, 14.8, 14.9, 13.8, 13.5
15.8, 14.7, 14.4, 13.3, 12.8
1:33.3, 1:30.8
felt strong, breathing hard last 200 of 600s but that's it. felt comfortable on cooldown
Saturday, 6 Jan 2018: 8 mi
Notes: AM lift. evening run. feeling good tib anterior sore
As for races, it seems like BU John Thomas meet on Jan 26th might be too fast -- potentially under 7:40. We're looking at the Dr. Sander invite right now at the armory to see if I can get in. BU is always an option though a race that goes out in 4:00-4:03 isn't very helpful.
Bekele is 27 seconds under 7:52. The best tracks are in Europe, Sweden, Netherlands, and Belgium. Them are where he got his world records. I would literally go there if you want to run 7:52. I'm just a sub elite with a 9:13 pb so if your looking for people on letsrun to run under 7:52 I'll have to miss that. Why 7:52 any way? That is really random. That is like a company Yandex calling themself Yandex 2.0 if they can get one of there employer's to run 10k in under 30 minutes. I don't really understand significance of 17 years and 10th February.
That's very throwback/Dyestat of you to post PRs and sample training week as a semi-elite runner who hasn't officially named himself. I like the boldness! Good luck this season!

Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
