One that will knot and tie with your wife without drama or training....Lab is usually good.
Pomeranian. So cute!

First post of page 3 says it all about running dogs.
We rescued a mutt, part pit bull, part I don't know what. He is the most loving dog you could ever want. Look for a dog at the kennel who is just sitting there in his pen, chillin'. Ignore the dogs that are jumping up and down.
Boxer. Great family dog and they love activity.

OP here
Wife and I both work full time. We have a big yard.
I run up to 90mpw but not sure how often I'd run with a dog.
All you will end up with is a dog that is hard to handle, or plain crazy with so little time spent with the animal.
If you want to run so much, do not get a dog. I'm looking out for you, bro. In many cases, dogs are the step before having children.
Why not have kids or take care of grand kids?
Go to the pound or local
Rescue.
Get some sort of a cattle dog or bearding dog... -dirty brown 30-45poinds...
If you buy a dog that is silly. So many great dogs waiting for you. Good luck.
You can rescue a puppy easily. But puppies can’t run to much for almost 1 year... so plan on shorter 2-4 mile runs... mine is 1 now and 10k is about her max. My 3 year old can run 13 miles easy if it’s not hot.

I 2nd the Vizsla. They love to run and when not running would be comfortale in a small house. While they do like to run - they won't run away from you, they want to be with you. I have had 2 and love their versatility.
That might be a good pet, but a Vizsla that won't get out away from you is a garbage Vizsla. They are bird dogs who have had the hunting bred out of them by city dwellers who like how they look and want their boots shined.
A few thoughts...getting a rescue dog is noble and kind.
Having said that, make sure that you have a dog that fits your needs and lifestyle.
I absolutely love Shichon dogs. Cavachon dogs are also great.
Both breeds are loving, small, hypoallergenic, and don’t require a lot of running. Shichon and cavachons are affectionate
Standard poodle. Smart. Athletic but don't need hours of exercise.
That said. Don't get a dog.

The dog has a bunch of energy with bro and wife leaving it alone for very many hours a day. It will end up crazy instead of an energetic dog that, with exercise, make great companions.
Poodle mutts are great. But, again, a super smart breed that needs exercise and social interaction that you leave in the backyard for nearly the entire day will be crazy.
We've gotten ourselves a boxer a year ago.
We've gotten ourselves a boxer a year ago. Indeed, it is very active and agile breed. I think that every dog needs attention and care. If you decide to adopt a dog, there must be conditions for it in your house. The most important is that someone should always be at home so the dog is not left alone for many hours a day. The page below has lots of interesting and useful articles about dogs. A dog is really a great responsibility, a new member of your family. The decision to adopt a dog must be conscious and deliberate. It's like deciding to have a baby.
I hear those two-legged dogs are a hassle.
None. Dogs are awful. They crap and piss in the street, bark, bite at people, etc. If a human behaved like the average dog they’d be in prison.
Do not get a chihuahua. It will become the man/woman of the house. In fact, no small dogs. They all seem to have a Napoleon complex.
Get a regular dog with spots on it.
Ever notice how both dogs and cats can have spots, but only cats can have stripes? Whoever makes the first striped dog will be a millionaire.
Some types of dogs are cool but I do not understand why most people humanize dogs and treat them like babies, putting them on a pedestal. All the while, these same people treat other animals like garbage. Killing them and eating them. If someone kicks a dog people go crazy but they eat their fried animals that live in filth until slaughter. Think about that for a minute if you have the capacity to think critically, unlike most idiotic humans.
