What kind of dog should my wife and I get?
We are both runners. We have a small house with a big yard.

Don't
Get a rescue dog. You will never regret it. Get it from a rescue organization that will give you a trial period so you can make sure the dog fits in with your family - a week or two. I rescued a pointer mix who is about 40lbs and she is my best running partner.
You both have full time jobs ?
Bichon!!! They are natural circus animals so they love to do tricks. They especially love going down slides.
Don't require a ton of exercise since they are little. Also they are great cuddle animals, hypoallergenic and the cutest dogs ever.
A greyhound
German shorthair
lab or mutt
What do they call a dog with wings?
we have superb luck with getting our dogs from adoption shelters. Dogs that were abonded for one reason or another.
That aside, i would get a dog that is a good fit with how often you will be available to exercise it. If you can only exercise the dog once or twice per day, for limited mileage, i wouldn't get a very athletic dog.
FWIW, we walk our minitiature australian shepard three times a day without exception, ever.
A bigger dog would really need to run in addition to that, and it sounds like you have that covered.
Go to a shelter. Find a mutt. You'll never regret it.
I would literally recommend a Alaskan Malamute. They are the best dogs. They are big, fluffy, and they have great strength for running, like literally Bekele. They look the best dogs to. I can't wait to get one some day. You should get one. I get excited when I meat them on the street. You have to envy the people who have them. I want to get one some day because they are my favorite dog. You can go for a run with them to. They are great marathon runners like Bekele. I hope to own one eventually and I recommend you to.
OP here
Wife and I both work full time. We have a big yard.
I run up to 90mpw but not sure how often I'd run with a dog.
Why does everyone need a dog in the city? It's F'ing tiresome man. Dog's belong in the country, rural setting.
Practice saying "Oh he's friendly". Dog owners never get tired of it.
If you must, get a friendly dog. Don't get a rescue pit bull.
Australian Shepppard is a good choice.
I 2nd the Vizsla. They love to run and when not running would be comfortale in a small house. While they do like to run - they won't run away from you, they want to be with you. I have had 2 and love their versatility.

I'm available. I do kids parties and you can wipe your feet on me.

My friend, a big hunter, got a Vizsla. He did his research and was convinced it was the perfect dog and paid a lot for it. But he must have gotten a lemon because that thing is stupid and pretty worthless. Guess that can happen with any breed. There's still individual variation.

I've regretted it.
Get a puppy that will bond and grow up with you.
