Rupp never ran a 2 mile world record, so I'm not inclined to trust your memory on these matters.

You can criticize the training but you can't really criticize the results, especially those concerned with speed. The kicks of Salazars athletes are insane.
He made her a legend in a very short period of time and she should leave? Jealous noob.
Main reasons to leave
Avoid burnout before 2020 / prolong career / avoid injury
Escape stigma of working w Salazar before WADA ban
Negotiate a better contract as free agent
Race somewhere besides Boston or Chicago
"Proof"
Over the last decade, AlSal coached athletes have won nearly 1/3rd of all medals In events over 800m at US national championships. Excluding Africa, over the last decade, AlSal coached athletes have won over 90% of the Olympics, WC, DL and WMM medals. - You can have your issues with AlSal, but you can't possibly deny his success.
Ah, yes. They should obviously work with one of the many famed and successful distance coaches who focuses training on "sprint-float-sprint" speed training. Such as...?
You're right about developing speed in some regards. But you seem to be approaching this as a sprinter suggesting how to coach distance runners. You really think Salazar's runners aren't ALSO doing short hill sprints and other true neuromuscular development exercises? Of course they are!
I do think it is possible to develop speed with longer repeats if they are of the "broken," style such as sprint-float-sprint-float-sprint over 400 meters. I used that as an example because many LRCers do not understand what I'm talking about when I say speed development.
I sometimes write too much and guys get confused.

You've just ran a personal best in the mile or even an American record in the 2 mile and he wants you down at the track doing mile repeats, followed by 600-400-400-200 or whatever?
Please explain how that helps any runner?
Some of you claim to be so wise, even to the point of pretending to be Alberto Salazar.
If you are so smart answer the question above!
Bear in mind he comes from the school of thought by which if a lot produces good results then more is better. I firmly believe that method will lead to burnout, Al Sal himself is a good example of that.

+2 because I believe in you.
Like horses we only have so many good races in us. In fact we are worse than horses because they cannot think like we can. I cannot imagine being pushed as hard as Salazar pushes his kids. When is he happy about what they have done? Where is the fun in all of the running?
Injuries, illnesses, and burnout are not accidents. They are not bad luck. Sometimes our minds will tell us when we have had enough.
I liked Alberto Salazar as a runner. I know of many high school coaches who could do better than he is doing. Have you looked at the logo on their uniforms? Run until death is their philosophy?
Mary Cain left for a reason. She probably wanted to enjoy the sport.
What did Rupp do during the Olympic Trials? He first ran the 10,000 meters, then the marathon, and finally the 5000 meters to in his words, "see what we can learn." (His race strategy in all three races was horrible but that's almost besides the point.)
Captain Insano!!!
Kids? Really? These are professional godd@mn runners. You're worried that they're not having enough fun? This is their job. And you can bet they generally do have fun, because running fast and beating people is really fun.
Ever since her Mon suddenly died, Jorde has been spending alot of time back home in L.A. Maybe she should just stay home and be with her family.

Few have answered any of the two opening statements/questions by the OP yet.
The reasons why this will not help a distance runner are:
1. Following an outstanding race with another hard effort or efforts means that you will
certainly give your best performance of the year. It might even have to be the best of your life.
Practice is not when you want to do that in our sport!
2. In this case you are specifically over working one system...the anaerobic system.
Arthur Lydiard was very critical of Americans doing this.
3. It could lead to illness, staleness, or injury. Maybe not that day but in the near future.
4. Where is the reward for racing well. They should be eating fudge sundaes not running an extra workout. Save that for when they are well rested.
The reason why it might help:
1. It could help you think that you are better prepared than anyone else IF you are way better
than anyone else and can tolerate it.

Good point and so were many runners in the 1970s for the same reason.
That's very true.
It is far too late to leave Alberto.
YES. Most people believe that NOP is a group of dopers and the fact that Kara and Dathan are the only athletes to leave at the start of the investigation means that everyone else was fine with it.
Leaving now would just scream of being desperate. Any athlete that joined following the investigation are guilty of wanting to dope whether they are or not. It's kind of sad.

Sublimation. They disguise their inherent pedophilia by expressing lust for woman who looks like a 10 year old girl.
I don’t believe this statement is untrue.

I don’t claim to know, but I generally think it’s a losing proposition when you find yourself arguing against success.

10/10
why leave now?
