Are you seriously trying to say Mo is not cut? He and Galen are so lean that you probably couldnt believe your eyes if you saw them in real life. Galens legs are more vascular than I've ever seen.

I got down to 128lbs (5'10") and felt OK but looked like a ghoul. In the end the low weight did not help my running as I ended up with a stress fracture in my hip - way too light for me.

Also, the human body is incredibly smart at using various ways to build glycogen back into the system. This is why people who try dieting cold turkey usually fail. Their body starts breaking down some fat but the process of using adipose tissue for energy is alot slower than say using muscle tissue. In turn people lose some weight in the beginning mostly water weight and muscle tissue before they notice much change in adipose tissue. At some point the individual will likely break down physically and mentally not seeing the results they probably wanted and binge eat which the body will likely rapidly absorbs back into the fat storages due to that cold turkey diet approach to be prepared for the next time.
The human body always burns the fat first over muscle.
The human body doesn't burn fat per se, fat is converted back into glucose to be used as energy and as you know, cellular respiration involves glucose to energy not fats.
Breaking down proteins in muscle occurs much faster than breaking down fats in the body, and I'm referring to extreme examples of starvation in the body not a typical day for the average person.

Mo is not cut and neither is Galen. They are lean but not the typical shredded dude. Look at Bruce Lee, lean AF but cut. Solinsky looks more cut than Mo or Galen. Meb was really cut but in 2004.

If you don't have muscle, you aren't going to look cut. People that are running 100+ mpw aren't going to have enough muscle mass in general to pull off the cut look. Have them put on 10-20lbs of muscle and maintain the same BF, and they would look ripped as hell.
I'm wondering that abs don't make you fast wrote:
Mo Farah does not have well defined abs and neither does Rupp.
Rupp has abs alright- they are just small and pasty. Well under 10% BF though:

And fatty acids are not "converted into glucose" for metabolism.
You are out of your depth here.

For the fast runners out there who are floating around 5 to 8% bodyfat, do you really feel healthier and stronger than when you were closer to 10-12%?
Myself, I am in the process of dieting down while building up mileage and I do feel the struggle of having some tiredness daily. I'm at around 8% bodyfat at the moment.
I'm hoping that when i'm no longer in a negative calorie balance that i'll feel much better; but I can't imagine this to be sustainable in the very long term.
Thoughts?
I'm about 5% body fat. A 2:17 marathoner. Feel better running at the lower bodyfat. Don't feel any different than when I was higher otherwise in life. I've never been that heavy but at times probably been 12-15% when I had extended injury periods.
Brenda Martinez has more body fat than all of you and runs faster than all of you.
Rupp is lean. No ab definition. Not even close. He's NOT cut.
David Goggins is 6'1" about 175-180 lbs. and is way more cut than rupp or Farah

True on #1, false on #2. Her body fat is pretty yummy, tho.
David Goggins would break all of you in half.

Brenda is a chick and I'm a dude so she's going to have to more body fat just by gender. And no she is not faster than me, she's better for her gender than I am for mine, but I would smoke her in a race.

Brenda, yes, she is a woman, hence more body fat. So you are faster than her? Post your PR's.
