it's funny how people are automatically trained to doubt. Shows just how cynical the internet has made us. Just because something seems unlikely, doesn't mean it can't or didn't happen. Same people doubting on here, would have laughed off the the idea of "Allie Ostrander: Steeple Chaser." World ain't always as easy to understand or explain as you'd like to think it is, people.
allie O steelplechase Champion: happened.
Allie O dunk (or almost dunk) : happened. Ask Soldotna team if you don't believe.
World doesn't care if you believe or not.
I doubt it. Apparently some of the world cares if we don't believe.
I am a big Allie O fan but obviously she did not dunk. She is 5’1”, so her standing reach is maybe 6’10”. That means she needs a vertical leap of 38” just to touch the rim. Add another 6” to actually dunk, and she needs a 44” vertical. A vertical of 38” would put her in 11th place at the NBA draft combine, 44” would make her second.
I realize that a vertical leap test is different than a run up to a dunk. But the math is still daunting. By way of comparison, NBA point guard Mugsy Bogues was 5’3” and had a 44” vertical, and apparently dunked only once in his life in practice, although he could grab the rim.
Or just look at women’s basketball players — very few dunks in D1 and WNBA, where the average height is much greater than 5’1”.
