Rupp is a 1:11 guy.
You’re joking right?
Yes- he had a great olympics marathon and a great Chicago marathon but they were both relatively slow races. There’s no doubt that he’s currently the best American marathoner but let’s see how he does in London or Berlin if he ever races on a faster more competitive course.
Though he may be coached by a shady coach, I think he’s clean. He’s good but not great or at least hasn’t shown his greatness yet... regardless he will never be as great as Bekele.

Well no one other than Mo Farah will be as good as Bekele. Thanks for pointing out the obvious

^This. Using a forbidden method in 2012 was just grey area boundary pushing, and getting flagged with high testo in 2016 and high Hct in 2017 was all coincidental. There is no evidence.
Along these lines: he'll run a 2:02:02 in Berlin 2018.

Yes I expect there are many Letsrunners who should have claimed race record bonuses had it not been for the dreaded HJ blocking the road to glory. Only one thing worse than a hobbyjogger: a gobby hobbyjogger.
Did Bekele look relaxed at least?
any video?

Bekele looks like he is absolutely flying but I don't think his time will be great.
Did he look in shape this race? There’s been a couple times recently where he’s looked heavy and not in best shape
He looked great when he turned it on in the last 1/3 of the race. Won by a minute. I don't think he was pushing very hard for most of the race because the lead pack included a couple nameless Indian guys. But once he put down the pedal and started turning the screw, they were finished.
Physique wise, I don't know, he looked like Bekele, with his giant upper legs and soul-crushing machinations.

The current 25km is pretty good.
In an even paced 25km in 1:11:18 (WR), you hit the half marathon in 60:10. That's about KB's PR (yea yea he probably could have been 58:low at some point in his career, but he isn't now).
That 2:03 is now 15 months in the past on an athlete that has had injury problems for 7 years now. I do not think he gets the WR or even a PB.
Probably 1:13:20 if he finishes at all.
You must be really fun at a party.
You think Kenenisa is an old, pathetic runner who runs like complete sh*t now...just like you.
Any comments now? Even my 1:13:20 was too generous.
There are still people that actually believe Bekele is better than Rupp.

TrackBot! Compare Kenenisa Bekele vs Galen Rupp
Galen Rupp's last 21.1km at Chicago was 63:09
His last 25km was damn close to Bekele's time today

I love Rupp more than most but put him in a race with Bekele and the only way Rupp wins is if Bekele drops out. That is not to say that Bekele is definitively better than Rupp at this point in time, he does have trouble finishing races.
Anyways, this was a nice result from Bekele. To set a world record is a tall order, even for Bekele. So I was not surprised he did not better Kimetto's mark, but damn he looked good today. In London his stride was very strange, he mentioned injuries and the shoes. Not so today, as far as I could tell. He looked relaxed and powerful. We can probably assume his training is going well. Expect great things.
Well, that's also the thing...Seems many times if Bekele is not going to win he just drops out. I just don't see him beating Rupp anymore in 7 out of 10 races. It's possible he may run faster than Rupp, but then again we have not seen what Rupp can do in a time trial type half marathon or marathon.

Please rewatch 2012 Olympic 10000 meters.
I am not saying Rupp at his best is near Bekele at his best, we know that is not the case. But, Rupp has beaten Bekele in Bekele's best distance at the Olympics. I think it is completely reasonable to think Rupp could beat Bekele in any given road race these days.
To reiterate: I love me some Rupp.
But it is not 2012. Bekele is not 2012 Bekele. Rupp is quite good, but I’m not going to say he has 2:03 in his legs.

Sadly we'll probably never know with Rupp seeing how he only runs non-paced marathons while Bekele only runs paced marathons.
Lets say both line up at the Ras-al-kimah (can't recall the exact name) for a half marathon. Would it blow your mind if Rupp beat Bekele? Not me; in fact I'd bet on it.

You’re right that he’s only doing paced races but I think he would excel at nonpaced races (see great north run a couple years ago to see that strategy)

Always and Forever™ ✔️
Mr Eliud Kipchoge might say differently.
Well he wouldn't, he's the most modest person in the world, but 2:00:25...
