I am leaning into my keyboard as I write this: GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
Ok, nap time.
Would have caught him at the finish if he had used starting blocks.

Are you the cat running shirtless in the race?

I'll explain it to you: people on message boards write messages in seconds without caring about how they spell, if they use correct punctuation or grammar, etc. It's because they don't care.
I always laugh at this ridiculous excuse. People that can't spell always think that they will be able to appear that they *can* spell, but of course, they are just "in a hurry" or "don't care." :)
I'll explain it to you: No, you aren't using incorrect grammar and spelling because you are "in a hurry" or "don't care." How do I know that? Because if you actually knew how to spell and use correct grammar, you would have to go out of your way to spell words incorrectly. It would be a conscious decision. Think about it, you retard.

Why do you call everyone a "cat?" Are you stuck in 1967?
Muscle loss is probably the single greatest cause of slower speed as you age, so his focus on strength and speed with weights, hill repeats, and 200s/400s being just about all of his workouts outside of cross training (he also does 1200s), is right on the money. I don't know if he does take testosterone to build muscle but this is what many overlook. I have never even concentrate on these shorter workouts and it has cost my 800/mile times because I almost never run even 400s ahead of 3k pace.
scratch that, ahead of mile pace.
It's good to see these older guys figuring out how to make running work over the years.
Improvement in running all comes down to recovery. If you can't recover from the workouts, then you will never improve. The best runners can do lots of hard workouts and recover from them so they get faster.
The older i get, the fewer hard workouts i can do. i don't care if it's a hard run or a hard bike, if my HR is above 160 for any period of time, it will be 2 days before i can do anything hard again. So i'm guessing that when i'm this guy's age, that it will take even longer and that the lower mileage with lots of lifting to decrease muscle loss is going to be necessary,
Just an old guy here who agrees with 'Bobaloo.' The English language is worth preserving.
'time & place' is defending people who are either too uneducated or too lazy to use proper English by attacking Bobaloo and his caretaker. I don't think it's Bobaloo who is in need of a caretaker, it is the arrogant 'time & place.'
To excuse people because "they don't care" (about using proper grammar) is one of the most idiotic arguments I've ever heard.
"We found the defendant innocent your Honor because the defendant didn't care whether the victim lived or died." An extreme example, but 'the doesn't care argument is lame.'
I understand abreviating words, but mixing up words like ran, run or their, there, they're are inexcusable.
I hope I didn't misspell any words. (I misspelt 'abbreviating' on perpuss.)

Agreed. I am stunned.
when you get old its more about recovery

Stupid...this is an *informal* discussion forum. So, who really cares except the few jerks who feel compelled to correct someone's grammar. ?

Take it easy, guy.
Def a T booster or two
I think the low mileage actually makes sense.
If he had been running 80-100 mi a week in his youth his body would likely be suffering the accumulated stress of so many miles and probably a number of past injuries.
In absolute terms a 5:29 is not very fast- most HS athletes could probably achieve the requisite aerobic ability from two runs a week. As aerobic ability does not erode nearly as much as power/speed with age, low mileage and thus a low aerobic base would not be the biggest barrier for him to running this time.
It’s very impressive that he has maintained the necessary speed into his 70s though.

be nice.
Damn, I'm a youngster of 60 but I think this dude would beat me in a mile.
I'll smoke him in a half marathon however, as he's low mileage.
