Sydney McLaughlin just ran 36.12 (300m) in her first college race. I am trying to put this into perspective. The only NCAA athlete who has run faster is Merlene Ottey, who ran faster on 2 occasions, both times at altitude. The year Ottey set the NCAA 300m record (35.83), it was the best time in the world that year and she went on to run 11 flat in the 100m and 22.2 in the 200m that year. I am trying not to get too excited, but Sydney usually starts her season off slow and if she is she running like this in December, she is going to dominate the NCAA as a freshman.
