Hasay is the favorite
Hasay is the favorite
Shalane 3-1
Hasay 5-1
Huddle 10-1
Hall 40-1
Linden 250-1
Taylor 250-1
Burla 250-1
Among the Americans, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Shalane won in NY by not front-running and was tactically more cautious than in the past. Salazar's instructions always seem to be to have his runners sit on someone and then try to kick past at the end, so there might not be someone taking it out hard. If that's the case, Flanagan vs. Hasay may get the attention, but I wouldn't sleep on Molly Huddle. IDK about Linden. She might have peaked, but taking some time off might have been good for her.
I'm also interested to see what Kastor does after a few years to let her body recover.
Linden's odds -----OUCH

I think Hasay stole Desi's sole last year in Boston. She just seems different now. I still will pull for her but she lost the spark. Last year she was talking big but couldn't back it up.

I hope some other up and comers can get in their and mix it up, maybe get some nice PR's on the way.
They won't count as PRs if they set them at Boston.
I say 2 or more DNS. 1 or 2 DNF.

Could this be one the greatest American women's field we have had in a while? I'm not exactly a history buff, but this will be a wonderful match up. Glad to see Flanagan staying true to Boston.
Hasay coming off a 2:20:57 in Chicago
Flanagan coming off a NYC win
Linden is always pretty consistent
Huddle has good half credentials and had a great debut for 3rd at NYC, she has tons of potential
Who will come out on top for the Americans? Flanagan? Hasay? Dark horse Huddle? Does an American have a shot at taking down Kiplagat and company?
Hasay: Can't recapture the magic of 2017, finishes 7th in 229
Flanagan: Flying high from NYC, ends up regretting trying to replicate that in Boston, finishes 6th in 228
Linden: Never really in it, never really blows up. 4th place in 227
Huddle: Confirms her talent with a 2nd place 224 (race will be won in 223)
i'm gonna say hasay FTW in 2:23
huddle 3rd 2:25
flanagan 5th 2:28
linden, hall, etc non factors
Is this the greatest American marathon matchup in the last 15+ years?
Cragg would make it a real "best of" American marathoning. Wonder if she is going to try for a fast one, finally beat that 2:27 barrier she seems to hit every time.
She is running London.

Is it? That was one of the original questions of the thread.
Actually earlier this year, I posted about a dream race for Boston 2018 in which we basically had everyone described here - Flanagan, Hasay, Huddle, and Linden with the addition of Cragg and Sisson making her debut a year early.
The future is bright, and I haven't seen an American women field this good in years.
Also, is it too early to think of what Emily Infeld could do in a marathon? Alright, I'll stop.

While i would love for her to be in the Boston field, London is definitely the right move for her. With her credentials she can certainly smash her 2:27 PR, and she only has so many opportunities to do it. I call a 2:23 in Lundy.

+1
good call
Haha probably
(Among Americans:)
Hasay first. Because she is currently the best female American marathoner.
Flanagan second, and still fast. Can't recreate NYC, the same way anyone who has the race of their lives can't recreate it.
Huddle DNS. In her next marathon, breaks the AR.
Desi third, runs her own race, at mile 21 is 70 seconds back of Flanagan and looking great; everyone says, "I think she might catch Shalane, maybe even Hasay!" She makes up 10 seconds in the next 4 miles, but loses those 10 seconds in the last mile.
But if the odds are 250 to 1 I'll put a Hammy down on Desi.
Kellyn Taylor running too! She has a 2:28 PR and think she probably could go faster. This will be a great race!
Hasay, Hall, Linden, Flanagan
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
