A bit hyperbolic with the Boston-bashing in my view.

An example of message board logic: "Ritz has run 2:07, Rupp 2:09. Therefore, Ritz is a 'better' marathoner than Rupp."

The American public, and most of the American media, doesn't care who wins in Boston, either.
Choosing Boston is a good decision financially, but it sucks from a fan's perspective.

Depends upon the fan. Personally I find the flat, paced marathons to be a yawn. I prefer unscripted competition interrupted by interesting terrain. The courses at Boston and New York often lead to thrilling races. I watch London and Berlin, but rarely find them interesting as races.

Back in the early ‘80’s when Salazar was running 2:08-2:09’s I could only dream of being that fast, and I was a mid 2:20’s guy and a 30:24 10k guy. I always tried to figure how superhuman was to sustain close to 3:00 per kilometer for 42 kilometers. Give the kid a break, after all most of you here cannot even break 2:30.
2:09 is not bad, if so, I dare any of you couch potatoes , amateurs go and run 2:09.
I can run under 20 mins in a 5k, how close am I to a 2:09 mararhon? ?

Rupp is at his peak now and giving up the chance to race Kipchoge who is the very best and would give him a great chance to run fast. Perhaps not to win the race, but that is not entirely out of the question, also the drama to race his former training partner, Farah would be interesting as well.
Running Boston if the weather is perfect, temperature wise can produce a fast time (given that there is not a substantial tail wind). But Boston weather is very fickle in April and the runners are always at the mercy of the weather. Whereas London almost always has great running conditions.
Perplexed why is not going for it in a non Olympic/World Championship year?
He did race Kipchoge at the Olympics. He could race him in the Fall or next year. It would be great if another American wins or contends in Boston
I'm sure someone has mentioned this, but if Rupp is scared, why is he running Boston against the same guy who beat him last year?
It would be a real feather in his cap to win.
It will be funny when Rupp runs 2:02 at Boston because they got a perfect day and a mega tailwind. Can't WAIT to see what all the 2:09 people say then!

I have no problem with Rupp running Boston. It's the great American marathon. He probably gets a nice appearance fee and by racing in the US, he's a bigger fish in a smaller pond than London. Kipchoge vs. Farah will be sucking all the oxygen out of London this year anyway.
However, if Rupp goes back to Chicago in the fall and doesn't go on to run London or Berlin in 2018, or another fast record eligible course with deep competition, I think the it will be fair to start talking about him dodging competition.
You are way to rational for these boards. Leave now while you still can reason effectively.

The women's race looks awesome. Shalane vs huddle vs hasay
Was there ever any question that galen and jordan would run boston? Getting smoked in london is bad for their brand. Everyone thinks mo is a failure in the marathon because he ran one 2:08
What is better for the "brand?" Winning The Boston Marathon, or winning/fast time at some euro-trash time trial that has no history or mainstream interest in America? Zero disappointment! This is great news for Rupp and for fans of running.
Rupp FTW next Arpril. Done deal.
I know, it is just that we all want to see Rupp run a really fast marathon. That may not be his priority though and we will have to respect that.
Really fast marathon times are boring now. Unless someone goes under 2 hour who really gives a hoot? Marathons are turning into euro track circuit with a pack of Kenyans running for time and a few white guys hoping to get pulled to a 205 .
Criticizing Rupp on LR seems perfunctory. If he decided to turn states evidence against Salazar and submit his blood results every day, and then went on to run 1:59 on an uphill course, you would still hate him.

Kirui choked out Rupp in the first contest and I expect that a rejuvenated Rupp will narrowly beat Kirui in the next meeting, where the two battle back and forth through the Newton hills, with Rupp finally outmatching his rival in the final 500m.
In a completely unexpected turn of events, I predict Rupp toes the line against Kipchoge in Berlin. Shortly after the elite field announcement, a whirlwind multi-city media tour organized by Nike ensues, where Rupp directs a number of off-color, personal remarks towards Kipchoge and unaccountably shows up shirtless to one of the press conferences. Before the race is about to begin, a commentator observes that while Rupp may weather the blistering pace initially, it is unknown if he can maintain it over the full distance. He has successfully competed in several tactical marathons, but a race like Berlin is essentially a different sport. Predictably, Rupp is dropped around 30km by Kipchoge, and is mercifully pulled off the course by a consoling Salazar just after 35km, while a smiling 40 year-old Kipchoge cruises to a new world record.

It's been 4 pages already and nobody has stated the obvious:
Rupp is currently tied for the points lead in the WMM Series XI prize money ($250k for first).
He's tied with Daniel Wanjiru, Geoffrey Kirui, and Eliud Kipchoge. If Rupp wins Boston, he's virtually guaranteed to at least tie for first in WMM, if not win it outright.
I can't believe I had to scroll through 4 pages before someone made this point....I always assumed he would run Boston after the Chicago win for at least this reason. Best shot at the WMM $$.
Dathan has no caritzma.
Please elaborate on what you mean on "element"? Your post is vague and meaningless.

lmfao, Rupp the REASON American distance running is any good these days, if it wasn't for Rupp we'd be nothing still just participating. Rupp has inspired and motivated so many people here to run and compete with the Africans, and it wouldn't have happened without him, just deal with it
You’re getting Rupp mixed up with Bob Kennedy, Deena Kastor, Shalane, Kara, Webb, Ritz, Hall, Solinsky, and Teg. They all competed with the Africans before Rupp left university. I can understand your mistake, though, because they all are white.
I’m dealing with it all quite well, thank you.
Rupp is the best american distance runner, ever. The rest of those runners you listed have been left in the dust, especially solinsky and teg. Teg is a tool by the way.
