If we look at it this way.. CU only had three dark skinned runners. Rocha, Capateillo, and Herrera.
Two of them left.. now there’s only 1 person remaining wouldn’t it be pretty obvious that the team is racist? I mean look at Ammar. He ran into the same problems and he was the only dark person in the team.
Any coincidence???
Ammar? You mean the guy whose teammates participated in Ramadan with him to help him get through training while fasting every year?
Wetmore stood up for Castro back in the day, and has had plenty of POC on the team since then. Only recently have these 3 cited racism on the team coming from the coaching staff. But guess what, it's the same coaching staff they've always had. Billy Nelson is the newest coach and I don't think anyone who has followed him or his career could argue that he is a racist.
Here is my experience being on a college XC team. I walked on to my team just as Capetillo did. Guess what, not all 15 runners accepted me on the team. Some did, some didn't. Some didn't like me because they looked down on me because I was a walkon and they were on scholarship. Some didn't like my personality, some did. Some of the girls on the team liked me but some didn't and I was even rejected by one after asking them out. Unlike Cpetillion I didn't call her a @#$% %^&$#. Some of the men just didn't like the way I looked, because I looked different. I had a large frame for a runner. People made negative comments/slurs against me for how I looked, sometimes to my face, sometimes behind my back. Some runners supported me. The coach gave more attention to the top runners and less to me because I was slower. Sometimes when running on campus, students not on the team (i.e. part of the "campus environment") made vulgar comments and even occasionally there objects at me just because I was a runner. Once I did something stupid and the coach lashed out at me publicly and I felt very small afterwards. This is all called Life. Grow up you friggin wimps and stop hiding behind the race card, no one is buying it anymore. Life is full of people who wont like you and you can run away (transfer) and quit, you get tougher, you grow from it, you overcome adversity, otherwise you will just be a loser hiding behind the race card and everyone knows it.
Calling him a Mexican peice I’d trash is racists. Probably a white teammate. No wonder CU has a lot of racial cases.
Rumors before, and rumors now about racism on CU. This isn't a surprise because these two great runners lost hope due to racism. On the side not Joe klecker and John Dress dont get along with each other. They whole team making these guys fight with each other, while they sit and drink beer? What up with that.
People need to remind themselves that this is a 19 year old kid. For his reasons, he has decided to leave his school, ultimately because he was not happy there. Dressel's public response is a common refrain directed toward transferring athletes which boils down to the idea that Salvador owes CU and that he should stay. That quisling even directs animosity toward him for using resources afforded to student athletes for the very short time he is remaining there, as though Salvador should be banned from using the track. But if a kid decides to transfer that is their choice and they should allowed to do so, not be forced to stick it out at a place that they do not want to be. CU bet on him being a contributor and put him on the team and maybe gave him a scholarship and it did not pan out for them. CU's running program will get on just fine without him and will continue to be great. It is just not a big blow to the program. It is a much more significant deal to the individual.
This has nothing to do with "Transferring" you moron. He isn't just transferring, he is making extremely damaging accuastions against CU, that is what the thread is about, it is not about transferring.
His instagram is deleted, what did the caption say? Who exactly did he accuse of racism?
The common response in this thread is that Salvador should have just sucked it up and dealt with the racism. THAT IS WHAT HE DID! He decided to leave and while he did post about it, he did not even name people to harm their reputations. I don't know what else these people would want from him other than him leaving silently. Do you really want him to stay in an environment that he hates when he would have better opportunities elsewhere? Yet if he was subjected to racism there, I suppose he felt the need to speak up about it. If I was subjected to injustice I know that I would want to let it be known that people were doing this, and I suspect many of you would do the same.
Someone said
"You're supporting someone bashing good people at CU without knowing the details."
But no individual people were bashed, Salvador just said that he experienced racism within the school/program. That could be coming from the coaches or the damn president of the university. I don't think Wetmore himself did or said anything harmful but I don't know and neither do you. I hope that if there are people in his program that are driving a wedge among ethnicities or being outright racist that he would kick them off the team or fire them. I like Wetmore and think he's a good coach/mentor.
Someone else said:
"It's certainly possible Rocha and Capetillo are telling the truth as they see it, but going about it in such a way as to cast guilt upon the entire team comes across in such a way that creates doubt regarding the validity of their claims. If you're going to call someone out for such a serious transgression, you need to be specific about the details. Who all exactly is guilty of racist comments/slurs and what exactly was said? Throwing the entire team under the bus is irresponsible and cowardly, although that doesn't mean they aren't telling the truth."
The concept here is flawed. He did not call out the whole program, only people within it. He did not say the entire CU team is racist, only that he experienced racism from parts of the program. I sincerely hope Wetmore addresses or removes those parts. And he does not need to be specific in his claims, because you do not get to choose how a person handles discrimination.
I'm glad the folks you described moved out of Boulder. The ones I know in Boulder do not fit that description. If by "trustfunders" you mean people whose parents pay for college and kid still turns out an F up and is leaving the area after a 2 year failed experiment, we do have those but that's not a trustfunder. That's in most cases a middle class to upper-middle class college attendee ( or someone from out of state trying things out here for the first time) who hasn't figured things out and they must fairly soon because time is ticking. They are not "trust funders" in any sense, but maybe to others it seems this way. But I've noticed people outside of the area love throwing around that term "trust funder" or "trustafarian" and have no idea what it is.
you wat him to do all this on Instagram?
Claiming that a university or athletics program is racist without any supporting details is irresponsible at the very least and libelous at worst. This thread is six pages in and I still haven't seen an explanation for what the supposed racist comments/actions were or who/what committed them.
If a coach/ administrator said something objectively offensive or worse treated someone unfairly on the basis of race they should be suspended without pay immediately and have their job status seriously reviewed. If athletes intimidated/harassed another athlete on the basis of race then they should forfeit a season of eligibility and demonstrate remorse/reconciliation before returning to the team.
If some athletes just didn't get along with other athletes/coaches then they should act like adults, shake hands and get on with their lives.
Nederland icebox i love it lol
That Icebox is where frozen dead guy is right?
I love running Switzerland trail and then driving down to Rayback Collective and sipping on a stout.
How about this:
From the outside looking in I have no idea what actually happened at Colorado. 2 athletes have left citing racism, loosely accusing the xc team or coaches of discrimination in some capacity.
On the other hand, I've also heard rumors that 1 of those male athletes was harassing a woman on campus (possibly a member of the female xc team). The male athlete got upset when he was disciplined for his behavior and quit the team claiming he was mistreated because of his race.
I have no idea who is telling the truth, but let's wait for some actual facts before wildly speculating about the moral character of the individuals involved. I'd imagine nearly all of the people on this thread claiming Whetmore is a racist or that the male runner is a liar are not involved with the CU program and have no actual idea what they're talking about.
Everybody chill.
how are they not trustfunders? mom and dad are giving them monthly allowance and not making them grow up. they will be taken care of their whole life, and there pitiful 4-12 hrs a week job is their "own" money. thus they can complain about being soooo broke, yet mom and dad still pay their phone bill, car insurance, car payments, half or full rent, still give them money for climbing/camping/christmas/springbreak/europe vactions.
i think you are being confused with this slang term for a "trust fund"
this is the best i can find, but these days "trust fund baby" is just called "trustfunder" or a "trusty"

these brats 115% vote democrat, and have entitlement attitudes, and believe they are special. its prob 98% white, but back in college there was a kid on the team that was 1st generation mexican immigrant and he was worse, cause he was just as bad as the rich white kids but pulled the race card as well, a very annoying brat for sure.
he grew up in highlands ranch, his parents were somehow connected to the mexican government or something like that, and he cried and complained he was soooo poor, cause he was bullied that his parents only made a combined income of $375K a year. his neighbors he said were government officials, one worked for NASA and the others were software engineers or something.
like wow your family only pulls in $375 a year and you are pulling this "im a poor mexican i have been through soooo much" card. needless to say he had few friends and threw some serious temper tantrums
Cue slow motion footage of right-wing deportation squads in action!
This is what the racists on this board want
You're the one who sounds like a whiny little trust fundy throwing mad shade at Boulder. Clearly you couldn't hack it there. People read character well. They probably took one look at you, got a bad vibe, ignored you and that hurt your feewings.
