Also yes Lane was smart to start late but part of that was because she raced long into the summer. I also doubt she's on 40 miles a week, but who knows.
Why do you think something needs to change? These are kids. Let them run however they see fit. We can guide them, sure, but what you propose is helicopter-controlling them. No one wants that. Let them make their own mistakes (within reason, of course.)
